This is the biggest key difference between the GX460 and 550 in my opinion. Not the engine, not the interior. Redditors say i'm coping, but If I wanted to drive a vehicle as large as the GX550, I would have just built out an LX600 when I ordered mine. Money is not the issue. If someone has never sat in an LX600 they won't understand. I remember my local dealer taking me to their garage and showing me a LX600 they had for another client. It appeared manageable enough from the outside, but when my girlfriend and I climbed in and shut the door we both instantly bust out laughing. Why? The hood length of the LX600 sticks out from the driver position for what seems to be a cartoonish 6 or 7feet. We went directly from the LX600 and got in a GX460, and we both thought "Wow, this is the PERFECT size".
They made the GX550 5inches longer, and gave it what appears to be the same hood-length proportions of the LX600. If you were ever traditionally in the market for a full-sized Land Cruiser, then the GX550 is a very cool product. Everyone is going gaga for the redesign and it's cool, I get it, but i hope current GX owners looking to upgrade realize they're giving up their daily driver "Prado manageability/maneuverability " for a substantially bulkier vehicle. Again, thats great if you were in the market for a full sized land cruiser, but I never was.

I checked with two dealers in my area. One took a $1,000 deposit and put me on their “list”. They said I am number 4. The other dealer wouldn’t take a deposit because they said Lexus is not taking orders. Once the 550 gets released and they have their allocation they will pre-sale them.
The size discussion is interesting and important. I can accommodate the 550 in my garage but I’m not sure if it’s too big for my wife’s tastes. I guess driving an Lx600 might be the best way to tell in advance.
My biggest reservation on the 550 is the engine. It appears to be very complex and is loaded with technology. I’m going to study the Tundra and Sequoia forums and see what those owners have to say. At least the TT V6 will have been in use for a couple of years domestically before the 550. We may end up going with the 2023 for assured reliability and the fact I’m confident maintaining the 23 on my own.

I love the new exterior styling of the 2024 Overtrail. I like that the GX has been widened as, to my eye, the height-to-width proportion of my 2012 is just off. But even if it would fit in my garage, I'm not a fan of the added length.
Also, not a fan of the getting a twin turbo engine, bigger horsepower and torque numbers notwithstanding. The 1UR-FE is so smooth and enjoyable both on and off road. And giving up 2 cylinders in exchange for twin turbos to only get one more mpg makes little sense.
My 2012 only has 108k on the clock so I doubt I'll be considering the newer model. Maybe I'll feel differently when the hybrid comes out but it will still be missing 2 cylinders.

2) why no split liftgate at least?
3) why ugly rear wiper to look at?
4) why second row only 40/60 split?
5) why second row AC vents moved down to bottom center
6) why no second row separate auto AC temperature controls?

8) They have traditionally had 2nd & 3rd row options. Nothing new here.

my question was regarding bench configuration: The current GX bench can fold 40/20/40. This means you can have 2 passengers in the 2nd row and still fold the middle section if you have long skis to pass thru or similar items. New GX eliminated this feature

New model has all the expected updates and tech. It looks so similar to a Defender though. It is also bigger especially the width, the current one doesn’t feel small, but the new one almost feels like a totally different type of vehicle. I almost don’t see the point of the LX anymore

I agree with you. And in addition to the engine change in the 550, the '23 GX is so smooth and quiet, which is important to me. It will be interesting if they can pull the superb quiet that the current GX has. The new platform is suppose to make a difference.Time will tell. As far as the larger size for the 550, I don't get why that was necessary.
With all the torque that the TTV6 makes it wont ever have to rev past 2500 rpm in normal daily driving. It wont need to drop 2 gears to get out of its own way like the 1UR does.
