Kirk Kreifels and David Chao had a livestream last night, and they mentioned that the US will receive 30k GX550’s in 2024, and there are currently 30k people waitlisted. I believe they received this info directly from Lexus at the Tucson event.

So 30K US allocation, I wonder what the allocation for Canada is. I highly doubt that Lexus will say "Here are all the GXs we made, US. Canada, sadly we have nothing for you".
I was watching a video of the Tahara plant (
) and Lexus says that they make 800 vehicles at the Tahara plant, per day (give or take). This is split between the 4Runner, GX, LandCruiser 250. I can't confirm - but I believe the LS, IS, and RC cars are made there too. Other sources have claimed "The plant creates a Lexus every 87 seconds, equal to 675 Lexus models per day." (Wikipedia, uncited) - so no super specific numbers
While no reference to production capacity per vehicle, but in order to bring 30,000 vehicles to the US, The Tahara plant would have to be pumping out 82 GXs per day, which is 10%-12% of the theoretical production capacity.

Maybe I'm a bit of a nerd, but I would love to see what the percentage of vehicle production is allocated to the 2024 GX, and how many they are making per day.

I don't know if I've posted this before here, but Lexus has about as many dealerships in California, as the entirety of Canada. Canada has 40 dealerships total, across all the provinces, whereas the entire US has 244, with 39 being in California.

I hope that we're not waiting too long (in Canada), but none of the calculation takes into the consideration the rest of the world.

I think waiting for them to appear on a used market could be the fastest way to get one. Yea you won't get specific choice, but I feel like once the 2025 production starts, with whatever upgrades or improvements they make over the 2024, there will be plenty of 2024s with less than 5k miles out there. Plus with the new 250 series Land Cruiser coming out and 2025 4Runner coming out, these used 2024s GXs will take a healthy depreciation cut, which I'm glad you gentlemen are eating. Lexus always depreciated faster than a 4Runner.

Wonder how many 24 GX550’s will have the V6TT engine failure like the Tacomas.

Are you referring to the Tundra? It was a wastegate issue specifically related to the US assembly plant and has been rectified. The GX will be built at the Tahara plant. I have no worries about that engine whatsoever.

You might want to do yourself a favor and watch some of 460offroad’s videos.

the embargo lifts on the 1st of Feb, so I’m anticipating another wave of orders then, after people have watched the reviews.
Half of them will cancel. Half of those that accept are “car of the moment” types that will trade-in on the next hot thing to come out. I also bet that the dealership’s owners and family are part of that group.

This isn’t the new Bronco or lightening. Anyone who wants one of these trucks will have the opportunity by the end of 2024.

I believe the RX450h+ PHEV is made there too.

As to the OP, I was interested in a hybrid GX550, but opted for the RX450h+ instead. .

Edited: My bad. It seems the RX450h+ is finalized in Miyawaka, Japan.

Went to my local dealer today to get my car serviced and asked about the waitlist and it’s 2.5 years. Most people will get a 2025 year model.

and where is your local dealer? Your profile says CA - which is either California or Canada.

my Canadian dealer, last I checked, has a list of 2 years in SW Ontario (Canada)

I think I'm out. Just put in a build last week for a nicely optioned '25 BMW X5. Boy, how nice it was to order the exact car we want and pay under MSRP. Delivery in May.

Keeping my deposit on the Lux+ 550 active, but I am not holding my breath I will get the car in the config I want anytime soon. I am starting to sour with the way Toyota and Lexus do business. Basically, you cannot get the car you actually want. You get a car that is maybe close, at a time unknown and with a nice ADM either in the form of absolute mark-up or insanely marked up accessories. A good part of me simply does not want to reward bad behavior.

Which trim did you get if it's not a secret? The 6cyl or the V8?

I’m willing to be patient. The ADMs (although my local dealer claims to not add one) will disappear in a few months. I plan to have the car 10+ years- I’d prefer to have one that I don’t need to worry about after the warranty expires.

40i which is the B58 straight-6. Also has the 48V mild-hybrid carried over from the MY24 model. I wasn't really planning to have 2 BMWs, but the X5 drives so beautifully on-road, that it was hard to resist. Of course it is not an off-roader, but we were not planning to use the Lux+ (with its 22" road-focused wheels) for any serious offroading anyway.

The only thing I will really miss is the 3rd row which would have been nice on occasion. I configured for a two-hitch however. The other feature I got was the 2-axle air suspension.

The X5 will probably arrive around the time I get the call from Lexus, so it could be interesting, but for now I am heavily leaning to the X5. I will still test-drive a GX 550 when I can get my hands on one.

Anyway, probably shouldn't be getting into details of a BMW on a Lexus forum :-). I still have my IS 350 so I figure I can still lurk around these parts!
