Default "Dealer Added Accessories" Baloney

Just venting- My 2021 Bronco was totaled by a "high" DUI driver (Vaping THC) I don't need a replacement immediately.. I just want a GX in the next year. Every single Washington State dealer is adding "dealer accessories" BS. Stargard GPS tracker, Pulseprotects brake light flasher. Just crap that I don't want or need. They are asking $1900-5000 for this insanity. I don't care where I am on the list, I don't want or need it "fast" or first.

There are only 4 Lexus dealers in Washington state. Lexus of Bellevue, Seattle and Tacoma are all doing this crap.

I know that dealers are "independent businesses" and Lexus themselves can't jump in, but it is ridiculous that a luxury brand allows crap. I would rather it be ADM and not BS. Heck I would even buy a lot of accessories that I WANT from the dealer if they would deal straight up.

I ain't picky. GX5500 Premium any color and any options (prefer to HAVE cold weather and NOT have HUD)

Don't expect sympathy or help. Just my rant.

Typical dealer scheme.

New model, high demand, limited production = dealer markup or addons.

You might have to deal with dealers outside your state to avoid or wait for the buzz to die down.

Since you're in no hurry and stated wanting one within the next year, depending on demand all those markups could disappear. Other Lexus models that were in high demand showing markups due to scarcity are now starting to show discounts on some dealer's websites so patience may pay off.

I shopped for months in the Seattle area for a used GX back in 2019. I ended up buying an off-lease 2016 in Michigan to avoid the Seattle-area dealer nonsense.
That has not, however, let me escape the regional dealer service center stuff. Fortunately, it's only been in once under the "certified" warranty. I drove it 30 miles to Lexus of Seattle for that, skipping the much closer Lexus of Bellevue.

At some point the pendulum is going to swing and the manufacturers are going to realize they've lost a lot of customer goodwill by allowing such ****ty dealer behavior.

I am one such customer. Had a deposit for a Lux+ in June-23. Ended up with an X5 in the end and we're very happy. Compound issues:
- Dealership acted like angels saying the owner doesn't believe in markups, but then around Mar-24 tells me there will be "add-ons" totally about $6K
- Don't do build-to-order, so you basically have an unbound time to wait for the vehicle you want. On the flip-side we custom ordered an X5 down to every little detail
- Did not appreciate the specific forced bundling in the Lux+ (or being forced into Lux+ to get certain features) and then live with 22" wheels
- Ultimately decided that an X5 fits our needs more since most of our driving is urban. The new GX appears to be more of a super 4-runner which is great if you off road sometimes, otherwise something like an X5 or X7 is a much more luxurious, performant, quiet vehicle. We also didn't need 3 rows.

It will take a lot for me to go back to Lexus. My IS 350 is now over 10 years old and I will be replacing it in the next 12-18 mos. I will really need to be wowed to get the new version or some other Lexus. Most likely I'll get a Rivian R2 if they are still in business by then!

I'd ask if they take that off and in return you buy the maintenance plan from them instead of the extra accessories you don't need. They still make some money and you get to actually utilized something you bought.
