Did anyone here get a FIO Dashcam with their truck? Mine did not and I’m wondering if it might me worth purchasing the dashcam from Lexus and installing it myself. The unit alone is $300
Does it connect to the Lexus app to download your recorded videos or can that only be done via the SD card? If anyone could share pics of the actual FIO unit it would be much appreciated. From the generic pics I found online I can’t determine where the SD slot is located.
I sat in a truck that had the dash cam and it was REALLY intrusive into the driver's view; for that price I would recommend looking for a quality aftermarket cam.
Thanks @Oakleyguy I haven't seen the dashcam unit in-person, but saw them on a few videos online and I would agree with your assessment. I wonder why it wasn't mounted on the passenger side of the rearview mirror, precisely for this reason.
I decided against the OEM dashcam - based on the size of the unit alone. As stated previously, it is too instructive for my taste.
I have decided to go with a aftermarket unit. I opened up the panel behind the mirror and overhead console. I do see a free 5-pin connection (as shown in my pic) and it does NOT appear to have power. Even the OEM Lexus instructions to install their OEM dashcam references this free port. Only step I did not take when doing the install was disconnect the negative terminal of my battery before connecting. Is it possible that power would not be sent to this as a result of not disconnecting the neg terminal on the car battery first?
I purchase this amazon adapter to tap into that free 5-pin connector…(https://a.co/d/43VNeQH) and once I got it all connected there was no power. Tried multiple wire to confirm that it was NOT a faulty adapter.
When I opened up the panel behind the rear view mirror I see these 4 other connections with grey and black plastic tabs (they appear to be a mix of 5 and 10-pin). Any idea what each is for and can I disconnect them without making my car throw faults?
I just installed the factory dash, it does not connect to the free connector as you mentioned. You need buy a y adapter and that connects to the 10 pin connector, right above the rear view mirror.

Make sure you reattach that green push clip to the panel you removed. yours got stuck on the car side. it may not fit together securely if its not reattached.
