Perhaps that's a Stellantis issue? I had 5 MOPARs from 2014 to 2020 under FCA and other than my wife buying that stupid Fiat 500X aka Jeep Renegade the other four were fantastic. Three were HEMIs. Now I currently own a 5th Gen RAM 2500 Laramie and there are two issues (both common), one AC related the other a small shark fin antenna gasket leak, but overall it's better than a GM, Ford or European product. Having said this would I rather own a Toyota? Hell yes. I'm disappointed Toyota didn't pump out a 3/4 ton truck. Full disclosure, I would of bought one immediately instead of the RAM. We probably wptod of loved the Wagoneer for 5~7 years or until ~150k miles but I have zero confidence in any non-Toyota\Lexus or Honda making it past 150k reliably.
Which is why I respect purpose built vehicles that are designed ground-up... from the core ... for a specific purpose ... with the current GX460 being exactly that ... no marketing BS ... just a great proven design. Hopefully the next generation does not lose that commitment. Only time will tell ... which is why one should NEVER EVER purchase the first year release of anything.

Re: the Fiat 500X / Jeep Renegade abomination ... per your point, is a great example of "badge engineering" ... no different than the Bronco Sport that is essentially a Ford Escape ... all pretend "off-road vehicles".

The TTV6 I had in the new Tundra platinum loaner sure didn't feel like it was a better performer. Horrendous turbo lag and low range performance. Add to that the legendary Toyota sloppy and lazy throttle mapping and it was an absolute dog to drive. I hated that engine. The rest of the truck was good which is a shame.

Another issue is going to be price. It’s viewed as a defender competitor and a moderately equipped Defender near me is 78k; most are over $80k. Curious if they reveal pricing tonight.

I wonder if top end (and maybe entry) will be higher to leave pricing space for upcoming LC. A Bronco Limited can be spec'ed to over $77k. I am guessing the LC will compete against Bronco and GX against defender?

I think top end GX will be more than entry LX. I think GX gets shifted up - esp since it will prob have similar powertrain as LX and won't be that much smaller. The current 2nd gen GX dosn't have that much less interior space as the LX600. Look at NX and RX, top end NX way more than entry RX. Seems like they need pricing space for new 4runner and new LC. Plus if you look at the current price of the GX, after accounting for inflation, it is way less expensive than when it was first launched in 2010. The original entry pricing for the 2010 was 52K base (kinda in between todays Prem and Prem+) and $56k Prem (that is today's Lux model) both before any options. Using the consumer price index (CPI) to account for inflation, Base was $73k in today's dollars and Prem was about $80k both before delivery/handling charges.
