https://www.autonews.com/future-prod...rtible-hybrids

"A full redesign of Lexus’ large body-on-frame SUVs — the GX and LX — onto the automaker’s new global F1 platform will wait until 2022 and 2023, respectively. Lexus will look to improve its infotainment offerings — both the function and the interface — to address a known brand weakness and better match those of its luxury competitors."

GX: After a mid-cycle freshening this year, including a new front fascia, enhanced safety features and an off-road option, the GX is due for a redesign onto the F1 platform in 2022, when it is expected to add a hybrid version.

LX: The Land Cruiser-based luxury behemoth is due for a redesign in 2023, when it is expected to move onto the F1 platform.

Lightbulb 3rd Gen Discussion

I'd like to plop down $70k plus for a new Lexus but just can't get over how old this vehicle is. I could stand the exterior still, but the interior is about as old as dirt as well as the infotainment system. Is a 3rd gen in the works does anyone know?

That is probably the number one complaint on the GX. Has been for a few years.

I haven't heard any news. But with the 2020 refresh, likely another 2-3 years out. Search for any news related to the LC Prado, it might give you an idea when the next-gen GX will come.

The GX is a dynasaur which many people like, including me

No-one buys the GX at MRSP. At least 6K off or more for higher trims.

I just don't understand why Toyota would put latest tech on a Camry but not a car like Gx. Gx costs at least 2x the price of Camry...

I don't really see a very bright future for diesel at this point after all the scandals.

Looks like there are some DPF issues with the late model 2.8L used in Prado

Toyota sells an average of 28717 Camrys a month, just an average of 1986 GX's per month.

They have probably figured out that they sell that many GX's if they just leave it alone or if they update it. People don't buy the GX for the tech.

Not true. We would love have the tech in the Gx. That's why the original poster is complaining and many others.

I never said we wouldn't like to have the latest version. You said, "I just don't understand why Toyota would put latest tech on a Camry but not a car like Gx. Gx costs at least 2x the price of Camry...". I explained it by showing how few sales they get of the GX compared to Camrys.

It is true that the people on this forum didn't buy the GX for latest tech - they wouldn't have bought one of that was their main reason for the purchase since it doesn't have the latest tech. Complaining that your purchase doesn't have the things you want doesn't do much good, since you hopefully did the research and knew what it had when you made the purchase.

If you haven't bought one yet, then vote with your dollars and don't buy one until they upgrade the tech to your liking.

I believe the newest (2020 has Apple CarPlay android auto but I may be wrong). I won’t buy a new one until that is there. I rented an Audi Q4 the other week and it has the best auto touchscreen I’ve ever used.

This is one area where the slow Toyota Corporate methodology is probably hurting it. Our 08 RX has a tape deck in it. Tapes were gone at least ten years prior. But, yeah, it probably just comes down to the lack of ROI with the sales numbers. Though, I thought I read the Prado has CarPlay.
