They can’t offer the same luxury otherwise why would anyone purchase the LX? Higher NVH in the GX, lack luxury trimmings (no real wood, all fake as indicated)…..those will probably be some of the things that separate out the two models.
The LX570 wasn't just bigger than the GX460 it was way more LUX. So its not like the GX460 was super premium, it was just a nice sweet spot of very nice, better than almost all mass brand's top trims, even if less plush than other Lux brands interiors.
And honestly, as a consumer, I am less concerned/interested in Toyota's internal reasons and more driven by what they are actually producing and how it compares to what else is in the market. Even the upcoming Santa Fe interior looks waaaay better than the GX550, at least to me.
And they were also able to have a hidden rear windshield wiper, like the GX460, under the third brake light, unlike the GX550.

That looks fantastic and concur much more lux for probably 25K less money. This looks close to bmw interior (x7) trim level

I don’t see anything luxurious about that Sante Fe except the fact that it’s white.
White makes a lot of stuff look luxurious until you touch it and use it for bit.

Really?! Huh, I think it looks great. I love that steering wheel. But I do like light color interiors - I have the Ecru in the GX and parchment in my IS250.

It’s easy to make something look luxurious. Look at ikea furniture for example. It’s very stylish, very ….white. But until you touch it and use it, then you know it’s a POS.

For your taste, if this was white, I don’t think you would complain as much about the ‘24 GX interior. I guaranteed you that the GX550 materials and fit are a league beyond that Santa Fe.

LOL!!! I just got Ikea cabinets in my kitchen with the white fronts a few months ago - They look so good!!! So easy to clean too. I'm a philistine.
Nah, to me that interior looks bunk. Eh, I will just keep the 460 for longer.

Have any interior dimensions been released? I have a 2008 GX470 and with two kids the leg room is not ideal and only comes out to 36.8" for the second row.

no specs yet, but given it’s basically the same wheelbase as the Lx, my guess will be 36.6” for the second row. I’d say sit in the LX and try each of the rows. It’s more than likely the same for the GX…..

I agree with this statement, I never had a GX on my list, I knew it was capable and reliable, but the design never got me. Now with this new GX more boxy stying and clean interier, im sold. Its the only car im obssed with at the moment. Lexus will open up an entire new and yonger custober base with this model.

Maybe Lexus wasn't too worried about what current owners thought? Or want to push them into an LX which is clearly much more luxurious?

I don't think they can have 3 rows with the hybrid. The battery goes where the seats are - I think that is why the LC is 2 row only.
Also, I think going from 17mpg for the 6cyl to 27mpg for 4 hybrid, then after 150k mile at $4.50 a gallon you will save about $15k in gas. If the hybrid takes regular gas and say regular is $3.60, then you have $20k in savings, either of which can easily be used to replace the battery (since both 6 and 4 have turbos that can go - that part is a wash assuming equal likelihood of failure). So if you think of battery and turbos as like very expensive timing belts, then I don't see why you can't go 300k. The $15 to $20k you save over the 6 cyl turbo and slightly more over the GX460 in gas almost certainly will more than makes up for any turbo/battery replacement costs.

* look closely at the rendering -- they show a hybrid GX550 w/ battery w/ 3rd row seating... so it MAY be a possibility

note the 3rd row seating (very transparent)

The GX460 interior is ok but I don't find it spectacular. I have a 2014 Lariat F150 that I find to be as nice and, honestly, far more user friendly. The seats are more comfortable, the cup holders dont suck, the nav system is better(especially now that I swapped it to Sync 3 from a 2020 F150). And I only paid $42k for that truck.

About the only thing the GX has thats nicer is the squishy leather trim pieces on the dash and doors.

And before anyone says it, no, the interior is not built poorly in the F150. It has more, harder miles than my GX and is holding up great.

Interesting - I wonder where they will stick the seats - I doubt they are going to swing them up the side like the GX470/LC200.
