•• 2024 GX 550 Discussion

Huh - I wonder if the seats quality is not the same in the Prem+ vs the Overland+
This screen grab from The Tophers vid below shows seats in Overland+ that are way more robust than the Prem+ I was in - maybe the demo GX that the dealer had was a preproduction? If preproduction that would explain how cheap the interior felt to me. If not, then I would for sure shy away from the Prem models.

To this point, I was assuming identical interiors between the models besides NuLuxe vs Leather.

Good point on the differences in the seat backs between the trims. That Premium I checked out had the integrated pouch and it actually did feel kind of flimsy and cheap. It was pretty stretched out for being a brand new vehicle. Much prefer the hard plastic seat backs in this case.

Will the GX550 V35A-FTS engine see the same main bearing failures as the Tundras?

Eh, lets be honest. Its not like there are not quite a few oil leaks on the 1UR FE - both valley and timing cover leaks. Yeah, it is pretty robust, but maintenance is often more than oil, plugs, and brake pads.

I just don't want a really, really hot and stressed engine the life of the truck. I keep my cars for 20 years.
The old V8s barely had to work. Cooling is an issue for turbocharged engines right off the bat.

Sure - I am not pushing for turbos. But, I have noticed that my GX has had a bit more issues with the engine than I would have expected. I just had to have the timing chain cover leak done - if not under the extension to the CPO warranty I bought, that would have been at least $4k with the leaking water pump. This was at about 105k miles. If a turbo replacement is about the same cost, then maybe it isn't so much more expensive to maintain. As long as the builds don't have lurking catastrophic failures - like some of the BMW or Landrover engines of the past - then maybe future won't be too bad. At least there is not timing belt that needs to get done for $1k or else engine destroys itself.

2024 GX550 Lux+ model
Just got my GX550 Lux+ - It is loaded and cost was 87K + TTL - out the door 95K.
I paid no markup.
Very good sales experience
Not disappointed. It is very well appointed, and true to "real" SUV - truck based , and quality is excellent

What I am struggling to understand with the recall is why both the LX600 and Tundra engines are affected when these vehicles are manufactured at two different plants, one in Japan and the other here in the US). All all V-35A FTS engines manufactured from the same plant? That would make sense if the issue at hand is truly contamination from the manufacturing process. Otherwise, I am still wondering if the main cap girdle design is the actual issue.
