Any Advice on the Lexus Extended Warranty
First time poster - Long time reader.
I recently bought a 2005 GX470 with 47,200 miles on it. My factory warranty runs out in 3 months and/or 2,500 miles. I want to get an extended warranty up to 100,000. Lexus offered me their 7yr/100K from the date of car purchase for $2,600. In truth, it would last until June 3, 20012 or 100K miles.
Should I go with a third party warranty or pay the money and have piece of mind? Anyone have any good or bad experience they can share? - LuciaSteck

Thanks for the advice. For everyone out there - Troy of Greenfield still seems to be the best at 2145 (for the 7/100K warranty)...then a man named Toby River of Shreveport at 2230.

Lexus extended warranty-7/100k-$2145-Troy of Greenfield
Hi,I just got an extended warranty for my Lexus from Troy today.
And it is a Lexus Factory warranty.
As mentioned here before his rates are :::
7yr/75k- 1655
7yr/100k - 2145
Very easy talking to Troy Dietrich and the process itself is very easy.
Thanks,troy.

My Lexus dealer matched Troy
Just to let everyone know...I printed out an email from Troy quoting me the 2145 for the 7yr/100K warranty and brought it into my local dealership. The sales manager was less than pleased and showed me his "cost"... which was 2130. Anyhow, after he said to his sales buddy, "I guess if we are selling cars without a profit....why shouldn't we do the same with warranties.." Pretty funny...and sad...however, he quickly wrote me up the warranty for 2145 and I was out the door in about 10 minutes happy as can be.

I hope you dont really believe the dealer made $15 off your extended warranty There are hidden profits that they will not show you. Believe me, $15 would not even pay for their imported coffee.

I also bought an extended warranty from Troy a couple years ago for my RX 330, and have not had a problem. I have used it many times, mostly for things like squeaks and stuff. I did get both headlights replaced under the extended warranty too which I am sure would've cost a bundle if I had to pay myself.

Extended Warranty for 2006 GX470
Any update on this topic? I sent an email to the guy in troy mentioned here and he no longer works there. I have a 2006 GX470 with 45000 miles and a 12/09 expiry date on my original warranty. A few questions:
-Can I buy an extended warranty from any Lexus dealer before my original warranty expires and will any dealer honor it?
-How much is the dealer cost from Lexus and what is a good price/markup (or do the dealers all just stick to a standard markup)?
-Is it transferrable?
-Thoughts on the 2006 realiabiity and whether it is seems worth it if I plan to hang onto to the car for a few more years?
-Is the clunk fix covered (never taken it in since it seems like a hassle and it doesn't really bother me)?
Thanks much!

I bought from Troy
I bought my extended warranty from Troy about 60 days ago. Paid 2130. I had another quote from a Toyota dealer for the same amount. Go over to the Toyota forum - http://www.toyota-4runner.org/forumd...p?s=&forumid=3 and they have quite the discussion on warranties. I got a name from those discussions of a dealer in Missouri or Kansas who quoted me the same price $2130. I went with the Lexus dealer because it was Lexus but the Toyota dealer said he sell a Lexus warranty.
I was told as long as you buy the warranty and your car is under warranty you do not have to have the car inspected. There may also be a difference in the type of warranty you get. I am under the impression you should buy within the original factory warranty time and mileage.
I am told the $2130 included a $50 markup. I was told that by several sources. The local dealers quote me $3,900.
On the clunk I would get it in now. I just mentioned to the dealer mine had a clunk and it was fixed in several hours. What a difference. If you go to sell the car and have the clunk I would think this may cause some resale issues. It would with me.
I am not going to comment on the value of buying the warranty. That is an individual question. Al

I was thinking to get extended warranty too. I was told that Mercury Insurance sells extended warranty. So I called Mercury and they gave me a phone number of the person who sells the warranty. His quote was very cheap, 3years or 36k miles for $1200, but there is a catch. You need to get an approval before you replace any parts, and you can only buy warranty in 10 days from the time you purchased your car.

Extended warranty
My extended warranty would not cover a blown headlight. The extended warranty covers the car for five years are 100,000 miles. My LS-460 has 72,000 miles on it. It is a 2008. I had to pay $175 for the blown bulb, plus $60 to have it installed for total $235.00. Why do some Lexus extended warranties cover blown bulbs and others like mine do not?
