key fob

If I remember correctly, they are about $100. Your sales rep. could probably help you reprogram to your settings. And I'm assuming the parts/service dept. would at least do the basic programming.

I guess I'm not so sure about the price now. Actually, isn't it a little serial # that is etched onto a small aluminum plate that they have attached to one of your fobs (given to you as your spare upon delivery) that they need?

When I bought my 2GS, I was told that they need the serial# (little aluminum plate), but when I picked up my 3GS, I was told they need the other fob in order to program it.
I think it depends on the type of key. Smart Key fobs probably require the other fob, the actual "key" with the remote buttons on it probably only need the aluminum plate. Either way, you need proof of ownership of the car and proper I.D.

You guys are talking about the thing that comes with the key?! That thing where the key hides in?! Well...if you are, when I was at the dealer when I bought my car I asked how much it would be if I lost the key. They told me it would be $450 since it was a smart key(Ouch!!)

I know what you mean. I was also wondering why so much?! But that $450 is what came out of their mouth. And, thats why they told me "DO NOT LOSER YOU KEY!" Well....it might seem about right though because when I bought my 05' VW GTi they also told me if I lose the key that it would cost $250.

If you lose the one key, 300bucks, if you lose both = $3k cuz they need to replace the 'computer thingy' OR so the stealership says...
