Still looks like *** if you ask me. I pray it doesnt look anything like a Prius. Or that whole "trying to differentiate our styling from Toyota by opening new separate design studios" thing goes right out the window for me.

Maybe they ought to go retro and style it like a 1965 SAAB. (That had a low drag coefficient.)

Toyota confirms Prius-based Lexus hybrid for Europe

Posted Oct 2nd 2008 4:57PM

Toyota has finally confirmed what's been rumored for months, that a new hybrid is coming for its upmarket Lexus brand based on the underpinnings of the Toyota Prius. The Prius itself is about to undergo a major reworking, as the third-generation of the iconic hybrid will debut in January at the Detroit Auto Show. According to Lexus officials, the Prius-based Lexus will go on sale in Europe for 2010, and we're guessing the U.S. will get that model too. A second dedicated hybrid model will reportedly also join the Lexus ranks and be larger than the Prius-based car. We don't have too many details yet on either of these new Lexuses, except that they will be more performance-oriented than their Prius sibling. A high-luxe Prius, as long as it doesn't get too pricey, may be just what the doctor ordered for the struggling Lexus brand.

This is great news and I believe Lexus will designate it as HS 250h. Lexus will have lots of models soon...

i think the way the car just stops @ the back is very un-lexus, it should have a trunk or wagon style hatch or something

i know it's prius based & that's what the prius looks like, but man i hope they make the rear a little more lexus-ish

Seems doubtful and a bit of a step backward as the 2.4L is being replaced one car at a time by the new 2.5L. The 2.4L offers little power and isn't as efficient as the 2.5L.

What 2.5? I believe you're referring to the 2.7-liter 4 that will debut in the 2009 Toyota Venza and will also become the standard engine for the '09 Highlander.

I'm guessing it was simply the expediency of slotting the whole Camry Hybrid powertrain into the "Lexus Prius" (which might thus wear the HS 240h moniker?)
