They make it tall for the headroom, just look at the Yaris, ugly but useful for some ...

and lexus would like to keep msrp above 30k for all of its cars.

that said, the HS would be one of the ugliest $30k cars ever
While I agree that the HS does not look like a car that should wear a luxury badge from a styling standpoint, I am sure it will look like it can justfy a $30K price if you see it in person and pay attention to the details.
Almost all Lexus models look more impressive in person than in pictures because that's when you see the details up close. Some people will find the car acceptable even if the styling of the car is not impressive.

So I guess Lexus has effectively "lowered the bar?" haha From a styling standpoint, I would not at all object to that opinion...

I think someone mentioned 1 Series somewhere in this thread - I sure as hell hope Lexus is not trying to compete with that with this Yaris/Corolla look-a-like. I dont like the 1 Series all that much but at least its a coupe and RWD.

ISC actually looks ok here but it makes me pine thinking about how BEAUTIFUL a normal coupe would have been

Interesting event, somewhere in Newport Beach? Nice hotel.

Anyhow, the HS does look better in darker colors, although it still looks a bit too econobox for my taste. Well, at least the brand has nice lookers from the IS sedan, LS, others, even ES.

Strangely, the reverse is true IMO for the IS-C, it looks better in brighter colors, the darker colors make it look dour. Overall both cars are not great lookers, although fortunately the IS-C can go top-down for some fun.

I think a lot of it has to do with the dark grey IS-C being matched with the dark grey rims that just make the whole thing look dour. I just noticed they didn't give the IS-C any chrome trim around the windows either.

aging 'sensible types' (i meet lots of 'em) will like it. they'll feel upscale driving a "lexus", feel sensible for driving a hybrid, will like the quiet drivetrain, and won't care that it looks like a corolla with a few extra bits of trim. the only thing that might be a problem is you probably can't get two golf bags in it.

it's not really surprising the enthusiasts here on CL don't care for it though!
To an extent, I like it, though I don't care for the mouse-roller on the console and the lack of interior wood except for the window switches.

So that makes me an aging non-enthusiast? (Well, at least the aging part is correct).

(And, BTW, though I don't know a great deal about her, there are several things about Susan Boyle and her morals/lifestyle I admire)

I was wondering what it might compete with (besides civic, corolla, prius and insight), and thought about the TSX.
The TSX will likely undercut the HS.....the two probably won't be in the same price range, though I understand a SH-AWD TSX is coming that could make the two of them a little closer in price.

My guess, though, is that the HS's most likely direct competitor will be the Lincoln MKZ, if Lincoln gets the hybrid system from its sister Ford Fusion. If not, than I agree with you......it will be difficult to pinpoint direct competition.

yes, mike, i know you think acuras are ugly, but this hs250 makes the tsx look like megan fox.
You and Mike hash that one out......I'm not getting involved in it.

so they're similar size, but the tsx is lower, wider, longer, no doubt WAY more fun to drive, and its interior and exterior blows away the HS250
Not really. The new 2009 TSX's interior, despite being a little larger, is, IMO, a disappointment compared to the nice classy one in the 2008 model (especially the beige/wood). I've covered that in other threads, and won't go into the details again here.....but I'll withold comment on a direct TSX-HS comparison until I have a chance to see the HS in person.

Haha both entry level luxury but two totally different categories. As for fun to drive, you've driven the HS already?
