I managed to get a discount off the MSRP.
At first I was looking to use the Costco Auto Program which has prearranged pricing with average savings of about $1000. I was told that the HS is currently not part of the program so they were unable to come down off the MSRP at this time.
Then I heard that AAA also has an Auto Program and since I'm already a AAA member I decided to check that out also. I went through the signup process on their site and they reported a price about $1100 off the MSRP at 2 dealerships in the SF Bay Area. So I chose the one 20 miles away instead of the one 80 miles away and received a phone call the next day. They told me to come in that weekend for a test drive and then I ended up buying it that day. Turns out that AAA outsourced the Auto Program to a company named ZAG so you'll see their name a lot, but that doesn't make a difference.
The dealership with the Costco Program was willing to give me a discount on price once they found out the other one had already done so.

Try Vehix
Vehix has a "What others paid" feature. Try that for the HS250 at http://www.vehix.com/new-cars/new-ca...190000000251EA. I checked with this (with the options I wanted) before we went to negotiate. We had a trade in involved, so it is hard to draw out the true price we paid. There was room for negotiation. The car market cooled down a bit after the CARS (clunkers) program ended 6+ weeks ago.
We had the car for almost a week now. It is a delight.
