Default Help with the various MPG displays

I'm usually pretty good with the gadget stuff, but I'm at somewhat of a loss as to what the various MPG readouts are referring to. (I've consulted the owner's manual, but the explanation is not particularly clear). If anyone can, can you confirm/clarify what each of the following MPG readouts are:

[1] On the Nav screen, the Past Record "Best MPG" (?Is this be best mileage for any given tank? I see that this can be reset on by clicking with the mouse the "reset button")

[2] On the Nav screen, the "Consumption" MPG (this one I understand to be a graph of the recent milage over the past 30 minutes)

[3] On the multi-information display, the "Since Reset" MPG (this one I understand is "trip odometer" reading that measures MPG since the last time this one is reset, by pressing and holding the button on the right side of the steering wheel).

[4] On the multi-information display, the "current MPG" (not the bar graph, but the number).

I think "Current" AVG (28.5 as indicated) refers to current tank. I, too, was unclear about these differing values.. my previous RX330 reset its "current" after each fillup automatically (I hadn't thought that was possible) which leads me to believe the HS is the same way.

From my experiments / observations (no NAV, so these are just the multi-function displays):

"Since reset" is since you reset that screen - you push in the steering wheel up/down selector to reset when on that screen. If you don't, it keeps climbing. Mine is currently over 1000 miles - good for getting a longer-term view of your mpg.

"Current MPG" resets itself when you refill the tank. I'm pretty sure it does this whether you reset the trip odometer (on the speedo) or not.

Hi Argelius,

1) Is the best "tank" since the clear button on past record was reset.
2) yup ... minute by minute graph over the last 30 minutes of operation.
3) Since reset is since the reset button hit (on the steering wheel ... press and hold enter button)
4) Current mpg since the last odo reset

KGenaidy -- thanks for the clarification. So, (3) you reset by the steering wheel button and (4) you reset by changing the Odometer (the stick projecting from the speedometer area)?

Clearly, though Lexus spared every expense in designing their graphics...

yes ... that's how I do it. For some reason ... I'm thinking the past record "bars" are hooked to #3 (since reset) ... not #4 (odo reset) ... but not 100 percent certain.

I wish Lexus would pay Apple to design their UI...

They could start by getting a better interface for an ipod. Its silly to have a USB cable have to run out from the center console into the slot under the joystick... Why not have a USB port in the console?

Also the gui for the ipod on the nav system is pretty awkward. Anyone notice there's no fast forward buttons?

(Sorry --- didnt mean to hijack your thread)

Daber -- completely agree with those thoughts (see my "owners impression" thread here about that and more).
