I never believed the "HS looks like a Corolla" critics until I saw this - a tan HS sitting next to an identically-colored Corolla. Sure there's detail differences, but they sure looked the same size / shape / family resemblance in person. They even have similar creases in the sheet metal around the mirrors.
I guess a lesson here is don't buy an HS in tan - too many Corollas that color. Or maybe Lexus shouldn't use the same palette as Toyota on similar cars...

I believe all cars have that crease by the side mirror...its how all carmakers connect the A pillar to the hood

I guess the only similarity between the HS and the Corolla is proportion, and even though this is a stretch, the bulge of the front bumper under the headlights and grill may be the most similar part

IMO the HS just doesn't look "Lexus". It doesn't necessarily look like a Corolla though.

Actually, if you put a Camry next to a Corolla, you'll see a lot of similarities, too (side and front view). The two share a lot of design elements.
Similarly, if you put an ES next to an LS, you'll also see a lot of similarities, due to shared design elements.
I have a grey ES and my wife has a white Camry (recent models). I think the two look quite different. However, the other day I had a white loaner ES, and when I walked into the parking lot and saw the two next to each other from the side, I did a double-take. They really did look identical from the side!
I think the main reason the HS doesn't look like a Lexus is the front grille. It would have been better marketing to use a grille similar to that of the LS hybrid -- make all the Lexus hybrids share a common theme.

OT: Sometimes I wonder why there are so many beige Corolla and Camry cars on the road. Does Toyota simply not produce many that aren't beige? Is there a special color surcharge for non-beige ones? Are there huge lots of unsold non-beige vehicles hidden somewhere?
