Diesel vs. Hybrid

You can thank 1sicklex for pointing this link out...here is the quote in the link:
"We’d Rather Have a Prius (There, We Said It)
Lexus claims that a not-insignificant 60 percent of entry-luxury customers would consider a hybrid if it were available. If that is the truth, this car should sell reasonably well. Still, it’s hard to say that the HS250h does the hybrid thing—i.e., get great mileage and make splashy green statements—as well as the Prius. Nor does the HS250h do the luxury thing as well as other Lexuses. It is less practical than the Prius while returning exactly as much driving satisfaction—which is to say very little—all without the green halo effect that has made the Prius the favorite of the environmentally inclined. Indeed, if the HS250h isn’t going to drive any better than the Prius, we’d rather have the mileage—and the lower monthly payment—of a Prius instead."
Yup, thanks for taking this thread into Prius vs. HS...i like it.

I don't care what they say that is their opinion. The HS was never going to be a magazine darling. I also completely disagree about driving satisfaction. The HS drives like a Euro FWD car compared to the Prius which drives like an American FWD car, which means slow to respond and pretty bland. The HS drives far better.
Geez both are great cars, both are cousins of the sort.

0.79 g is not exactly "euro FWD." Do all Euro FWD pull 0.79 g?? Anything to backup your statements, 1sicklex? I have nothing against HS...my post is purely in response to Magellan's comments against the Prius. I am not exactly sure why you added to the fire...only to have your own links backfire. Good job, 1sicklex!
And BTW, i don't really see the point of Lexus making GS450h...but that's another story on another thread.

I'm not adding to the fire, did you miss the comments where I like both cars and considered buying a Prius? My links didn't backfire as my comments were about acceleration and nothing else.
I don't care what people think of the GS 450h but what I can see is every company is rushing to make a competitor to the worlds first RWD luxury sport hybrid.

This statement clearly shows why you're in a Prius and not a sport sedan. Have you ever owned a euro FWD sedan? I doubt it.
While I wouldn't put the HS's handling in the same league as a VW/Saab/Audi, and have stated such in other threads, it's a lot closer than any other asian car I've driven. I was in the market for a sport sedan that got 30+ mpg (could care less about making a green statement), and the HS fits that bill pretty well (not great; I'm hoping other choices come on the market ). I've never heard anyone confuse a Prius with a sport sedan - it wasn't designed to be one and it's buyers aren't looking for one so it's perfect for those that just want to make a green statement.
I'm not sure how this thread got so far off track? I guess it all started when I claimed the HS and Fusion were better comparisons to the Jetta TDI than the Prius, and I guess I ruffled some Prius feathers :-)

As for my background, i owned a 2003.5 BMW M3 SMGII. And no, i have no interest in having a FWD sports car. The TSX was by default because it had HIDs and memory seats over the Camry...so, my wife liked it better.
And, BTW, "g's" is an important criteria in a sports car, euro or not.

Yes, I did read your sig, and no the TSX doesn't really count as a Euro FWD sedan (Japanese cars sold in Europe don't make them European sport sedans, and no self-respecting driver in Europe would buy one over a VW/Fiat/Audi/Saab). I owned an Integra for 11 years, which was a fun/fine handling car, but the newer gen RSX/TSX's got soft as they grew in size (not just my opinion - car mags like MT said the same in their reviews).
As for relying just on numbers to tell how a car handles, well I'm surprised that's coming from someone who owned a BMW. Did you own it just because all your yuppie friends had one? Given you're now in a faddish Prius, and stated that green cred is important to you, maybe so. Here's an article to refresh what handling is all about, and why numbers are less important than subjective feel for anyone not making a living off of racing: http://www.motortrend.com/features/e...ers/index.html
