I haven't had to press my brakes hard very often, but next time I do, I'll pay attention to what kind of sound it makes. I know it has a different feel to it but I can't say I remember ever hearing a squeal or the sound of air releasing.

I don't hear a raspy squeak, I do hear what I would expect when your depress a piston or a shock absorber. It's not very loud and I never notice it unless I have the radio off.

When I first test drove the car I thought I had to push exceptionally hard on the brakes in order to get the car to stop/slow down. However once I picked up my car, which I believe was the same one I test drove as they held it until I could sign papers over the weekend and didn't let anyone else drive it (or anyone before me since they specifically put the fix on it so I could drive it), I noticed they were fine. Brakes in every car are different from one another and take a bit of getting used to but honestly I think they are quite adequate and then some. Granted they won't be setting any records for stopping distance but just today I was on the highway and I had to slam my brakes and I had no problem slowing down quickly.
