Default Parking in a Garage

So sometimes I drive my car to work and park it in a garage for 10 hours. 99% of garages in NYC leave the keys in the car. This is a problem with cars with push button start. The FOB will continually ping the car when it's in range, draining the FOB battery.

I talked to garage attendants, but they don't have a solution as their policy is to leave the key in the car so the keys don't get misplaced, especially when we are talking about $200 keys.

I think Lexus needs to have a "Key Off" button on the key to turn the key off even when it's within range of the car.

Anyone have any thoughts about this? I have no idea how to solve this problem.

The Lexus HS 250h does have a "Key Off" feature. Using the Menu Switch and Multi-Information Display (Section 2-2 Page 169) in the "Customerization" section of the owner's Manual (Section 6-2, Page 575) item "Smart Access Sytem with Push Button Start" can be turned OFF. Turning this item off will disable Door Locking and Unlocking, trunk opening, and Hybrid system system start. Per Section 5-2(Page 434) the hybrid system can be restarted by touching back of the key FOB to the START key. While this feature is temporarily disabled I would assume that the FOB battery will not be discharging.

Wasn't aware of this, thanks!

I don't think that all of the parking attendants at my garage will be aware of this feature.

Can't you set it before you leave the car?

Batteries are super cheap, especially if you order packages of them from eBay. Even sitting in the car for days on end, how long does it realistically take to drain... if it's more than a month, I wouldn't worry about it. You might end up spending $5 a year on fob batteries. How much does it cost to actually park it?
