I just purchase my 2010 250h. I have owned it for 3 hours. I almost left the dealer during negotiations when he presented a $3400 extended warranty package. I am not a warranty girl. This is my 3rd LX and am pretty confident with LX. However when he presented me with possible problems with a car with 21,000 miles on it, I really thought, maybe I should not purchase the car. Can anyone give me reasons to extend the warranty with another 2 years to go on the Dealer warranty ? It would buy me 3 more years. So confused but loving the car already.

I would hold off on the extended warranty. You can always buy it later before regular warranty runs out. Also $3400 is too high of a price. You can test out the car until your current warranty is almost done and then decide then. I'm not a big fan of extended warranties but I did buy one in the past for piece of mind depending on the situation and cost benefit analysis.

Before, places like warrantyshack were selling original Lexus warranties but they are no longer doing so. Did Lexus crack down on the online dealers? Can anybody chime in and tell us where they sell the Original Lexus warranties online anymore? Not third party extended warranties.

Couple of things from my perspective -
1. Toyota and Lexus have very high reputation on quality and reliability. A car with 21k miles is almost new
2. If I understand correctly, you've already bought the car - did you check Carfax? If not, are you in a position to still ask the dealer for Carfax report. Most reputable Lexus dealers usually have that available even online.
3. If the car was with single owner and went thru servicing at regular intervals, there shouldn't be a reason to think that there would be something major in future.
4. It is a well know fact that Extended warranties are usually rip-offs.
