Announced Today - Excess Oil Consumption
#16
I think I have already been through this. I'm burning a little less than 1 quart every 1000 miles. According to the dealership, this is within spec!!!!
I think when I loaned my car to my son the problem started. I'm pretty sure he would put in Power Mode and push the limits of the car. Shortly after letting him borrow my car for a couple of months. I remember my oil consumption went up. Read: If you treat the car well. I don't think you will have any problems.
But if you do consumer MORE than 1 quart every 1000 miles. You might want to have it checked out. One guy at the dealership said "since it's such lightweight oil, it's just the way it is."

how many miles on the car?

I have 220,000 on it. At the time I had it checked It was 150,000 or so. They overfilled the oil a little bit. Even with that knowledge, I came in just under using 1 quart for 1000 miles. I thought for sure I was golden. But alas, burning 1 quart every 1000 miles is within spec.
As I noted above. I think you have to really treat the car rudely in order for it to burn oil. I'm pretty sure my son simply ran the car hard for a couple of months and that's what caused the damage. Before I lent him the car it never burned oil.
