Default 2010 HS 250h front exhaust pipe rusted off

Photo taken while car was on lift and I was facing the rear of the car.

I have a wonderful 2010 HS and I just hit 85k miles. A couple days ago my front exhaust pipe broke off at the joint. I took it to two places -- both wanted in excess of $1000 to replace. I need a quick fix - I can't get it back into the shop before Thursday because of work commitments this week. I also cringe at the idea of spending $1000 on this repair, especially because I can buy an aftermarket pipe for about $150.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Did you have a quick fix until you could get it in for repairs? I'm seriously considering some beer cans and a few clamps!

Thanks, Elsie

You can always try to pack a bunch of JB Weld 5 minute epoxy putty for metal around it and hope for the best. Home Depot or Lowes has it. The problem is the high heat that close to the engine. You will eventually have to get a new pipe as that cannot be welded, it is too rusty and crapped out.
If you can get an aftermarket pipe for $150, why do they want $1000? Was this a dealer? Have you contacted Midas or an independent import shop? I would think the labor not to be more than an hour or two to replace it. Also is this part of the exhaust manifold? If so, that would explain the high cost.

Thanks! I was able to wrap it with some high temp exhaust tape which has helped to some extent. I ordered a new exhaust pipe and can take it to the local car repair for them to replace. It's saving me a good $500!
