New to me HS250H
Hello,
I just traded in my Tesla model 3 for a 2010 HS250h. I was sick of having a car payment and found a great deal on the HS. Its a low mileage (64K) 1 owner all service done at Lexus dealerships. The car is in great shape and so far I love it! The dealer offered me an exclusionary extended warranty that I declined because it was around $2,600 for 4 years and 65k. I am not second guessing not getting the warranty because it seems like great coverage for the price. I've never had a car this old before and I know Lexus is known for its reliability but I do expect some things to go wrong given its age. Its not too late for me to get the warranty and I'm curious what you folks think? I took it in for a multipoint inspection and it got the green light, no issues and they confirmed all recalls have been done. I've poked around and due to this cars rarity it seems hard to find consistent issues versus the more popular CT200h. Let me know what you think

I bought mine 1.5 years ago with about 90k miles (150k Km). I now have 172k Km and the only repair was to change out the heater fan/blower motor. Otherwise the car has been trouble free. I have changed the spark plugs, oil, and front brakes. My trunk lock sometimes sticks open so that is something I will need to replace. I suspect at some point the hybrid batteries will become weak but so far there is absolutely no indication that they are deteriorating. Gas mileage is still right around factory spec.
In my opinion if the warranty does not include complete replacement coverage of the hybrid batteries I personally would not consider getting it. I can't imagine having to spend $2500 worth of repairs on this car in the next four years if the hybrid batteries remain intact.

Congrats on the new used HS250h. Here is a link to the Lexus Drivers Site. It is run by Lexus. It is free to join. Then enter your vehicle VIN to see the service history at Lexus Dealers.
I bring this up because there was a recall for all 2010 HS250h vehicles to replace the transmission. So make sure yours was replaced.

FYI the engine and hybrid system are the same as the same year Toyota Camry hybrid.

Congratulations on getting a 2010 HS 250h! Now you don't have to worry about range anxiety. Lexus is a very reliable car and you'll enjoy many miles with your HS. As long as you take good care of your HS you're not gonna need the warranty. As Clutchless mentioned be sure to confirm if Lexus replaced the transmission (free of charge) as there was a recall.
I also purchased my used HS 250h back in July 2016 and still have it today. It's a great car for what it is. It has more cabin room than my 2011 CT.

Congrats on a new HS250h. These vehicles in good shape with low miles are getting hard to find. Good move on refusing the extended warranty, I would never buy one of those unless I planned on purchasing a German Car out of warranty. We purchased our 2010 HS250h in 2013 with 33,000 miles on the odometer. It now has 100,500 on the odometer. In that time I have only replaced the exterior trunk lift button due to aging rubber and a plastic cup holder divider. I replaced the headlight bulbs because they were getting dim, but the originals still were working after twelve years of city driving. These are very reliable vehicles and should last you 200,000 miles if taken care of.

134K on my 2010 HS, and only repairs have been an O2 sensor and the rubber trunk button cover. I replaced the 12v battery a few years ago, but that's sort of a wear item like tires. Still original brake pads! My teen daughter drives it now and I expect it to get her through college.
I guess you've noticed a bit different connection between the accelerator pedal and acceleration on these CVT cars, compared to an EV...

Hey folks. My son was recently gifted one. We're getting used to it. Question though. It seems like there's hardly any acceleration even in Power Mode. I step on the pedal and the engine just makes a lot of noise, but the car has hardly any pick up. These are city streets (Los Angeles), not even the freeway. Feels like an old Nissan CVT - a lot of whirring, but the car hardly moves. Is this normal? Mileage is just barely over 100K.

It could be dirty/clog fuel injectors, semi-clog catalytic converter, dirty air filter, dirty mass air flow sensor, maybe spark plugs need to be replaced, etc. Your son's HS has low miles, 100K is just breaking in. Take it to a good mechanic and diagnose this particular issue. Enjoy your son's HS.

Thanks for the reply. I can't believe how many miles you have on yours. It was taken to a mechanic for some basic things, but not this issue. The mechanic said something about the battery being good for another 10K so I am curious how you got to your mileage. Wow!
There's a few things we need to fix like one side mirror that was hit a long time ago. It's upright right now, but Lexus wants to charge over 600 to fix it. Gotta find a different repair shop and some basic paint scrapes from the previous owner.

I responded to your other thread post about lack of power but it is similar to what was said above.
For the mirror try a few independent body shops or getting a used one on eBay and having a local body shop or yourself install it.
I have about 105,000 on my HS and it has been the most reliable vehicle I have owned. Beside normal maintenance items, I have only replaced the 12 volt battery after 9 years, and at 104,000 the front brake pads and rotors plus the rear brake pads just to have new ones all around.
I also cleaned the hybrid battery cooling fan and ducts to remove dust and help increase cooling. The vent is on the driver side rear seat. There are other threads on how to do this if interested.
I do change the transmission fluid every 50,000 miles. It is an easy drain and fill as it is not a normal transmission. It holds 4 quarts of Toyota WS ATF. It cannot be flushed so do not let anyone try to scam you.
