I have a 2022 ES300h, I only get 40 mpg duing summer with more freeway driving. Around 33 mpg in winter with shorter city driving. Way short of the advertized 44 mpg for both city and highway. But being in Seattle, roads are not flat, that might cpontribute to the poor mileage.

I notice a similar thing with hilly areas. When I drive in the SLC valley I get better mileage than in Park City, which has a lot more hills and steeper grades. While you gain some efficiency coming back down hills, it's not 100%. So naturally you end up getting lower mileage over time.

That still seems pretty low though. Even in Park City I get 42-ish.

I guess one of the gage is average speed. My average speed is only 19 mph in most of shprt trips, and gets 33 mpg.I felt that my avg should be around 30 mph, but with stop and go, its down to 19 mph.

Wheel weight and tire width is a factor. I’ve got the 18s and average 43.6 with mostly city driving, a little more aggressive than average I’m usually pulling away from the other cars at a green light.

The 22 Camry hybrid has around a 5mpg difference between the 16 and 18 inch wheel and tire combinations FYI. It’s rotational inertia and increased wind resistance at work.

Americas obsession with huge wheels is literally using tons of extra fuel.
