Thanks for the photo. If it's not too much trouble, could you post a wide view, showing the full back of the car? Sorry to be picky, but it appears that this hitch sits below the bumper and is visible across the back of the car. Also, is that the factory activity mount? Is it a 2" receiver?
From what I read online, use of a hitch extender will reduce tongue weight by 50%. The Lexus activity mount is rated for 150lb at 16 inch away from the pin hole. Finding a rack and 2 bikes under 75 lbs will not be easy.
It's not mathematically that bad. You simply figure the lever distance and force and keep the same ratio at whatever extension you need. For the half rating you or the book suggest, that would have to be a 16" extension, which he probably doesn't need. It can be expressed as torque, like 2 ftlbs is either 2 lbs one foot out, or 1 lb 2 feet out, same/same.
I didn't realize the activity mount was that wimpy tho, wow.
OK so got it installed, no wiring harness since we are just using it to handle a step for the dog to use, got my GX if we need to tow. About 45 minutes to install, there is no step 2 per instructions It also takes 2 people hold the hitch in place while you put the screws in. Get a 21 mm ratchet wrench since a socket does not really fit in the space next to the frame. Also did not need to support the muffler if you just remove the 2 hanger brackets, which you need to do to access the forward bolt hole. You can remove the heat shield above the muffler to make it easier but did not bother.
Hitch bolt being installed, that bolt is why bracket need to be temporarily undone. Hanger bracket unscrewed Hanger bracket, one on each side Hitch installed Hitch with step for dog

The dealership told me the same story when I installed a hitch on my 2020 RX350. There are multiple sensors across the back of the car inside the bumper cover, I saw them while installing te hitch. It was never much of a problem on that car.
I would like to know if anyone has looked into alternatives from Lexus. I see Drawtite makes one, also sized for the Rav 4. I want to know if that one is hidden except for the actual hitch receiver? Looks like the Curt hitch for the Rav 4 and NX is exposed bellow the bumper across the rear, which is kind of ugly to me.
YEP. For the NX, Drawtite shows only the hitch, not the bar and it is level with the bottom of the vehicle. It does drop down below the bottom of the bumper. Curt bar shows. Also, there is a new part # for the NX that does not require dropping the muffler.
