Distance to Empty - Not even close
#16
Reset your trip odometer every time at fill up and, allowing yourself a safety margin of about 2 gallons, fill up when you get to the expected miles for 15 gallons. I installed an extra-large 55 gallon Titan tank on my F-250 diesel and the computer/fuel gauge is not very accurate ever since. This method has worked for me reliably for years.
Sometimes it feels like we have become a bit over-dependent on modern technology when the simple methods can be much more reliable. KISS (keep it simple, stupid) is the best rule to follow most of the time.

Why don't you just fill up the 'Old Fashioned Way' ??

The most simple way is to have the gage perform like normal, and have the vehicle notify the driver that you will be walking if you don't get fuel within 20-30 miles or so;
and, leave the guesswork out of it.
Let's fix it Lexus.

This is no longer modern technology, but is to be expected of any vehicle, that's why it's an issue.

I don't think we disagree . . . . . .

Reserve Tank is Huge, Why?
I'm two fill-ups in on my 2023 RX 350h and I noticed that despite the stated 17.2 gal capacity, when "Distance to Empty" is under 10 miles, I'm only adding 12.8 gal to fill the tank. So there's 4.4 gal left. I could go at least another 150 miles. The manual states that the fuel warning light should go on when there's 2.6 gal left, so either that or the tank capacity is wrong. Is this consistent with your experience? Is something calibrated incorrectly? It would be nice to go another 100 miles without the light being on and getting the warning every time you turn the car on. I read up on this and reserve tank capacity is supposed to be 10-15% of the total tank capacity, so why is this car coming in at 25%?

RX500h incorrect fuel reading - wrong gas level
Hi all,
Will bring this up @ 5k service with Lexus.
With ~1,900 miles on it we have consistently found the Distance to Empty short by at least 100 miles of remaining range. Filled up last night and it said 25 miles of range left. The RX took 11.6 gallons and was full.
I understand the full 17.2 gallons may not be fully usable, but flagging 25 mile range with 5+ gallons of fuel remaining isn’t helpful.
Previous fill ups have all been around 12-ish gallons with the DTE showing less than 20 miles of remaining range.
Do your RX 350/500’s behave the same?
Anyone brought it up with Lexus Service Department?
Thx.

I’ve bought wife and daughters all Lexus 7 of them over the last 15+ years. This is my first Lexus I’ve personally ever driven as my primary car. I’m so very unhappy, traded in Land Rover that I had better experiences with than this Lexus.
I wish Lexus corporate would get this message. There’s something wrong here and engineers need to look into this bad quality control on these vehicles.
When the car say 20 miles to empty can only get 11 to 12 gallon of gas in the tank at that point.
Right now I am driving it to empty, put gas can in the trunk and at negative miles to empty. Actually said on the displays -1 miles to empty. I don’t drive a lot but should be empty by July 1 give or take.

Our 500h is overly conservative, too.

Still running after ZERO mile past empty
Well I'm current at 308 miles and range shows refuel, and you can see in one of the attachments a video that shows a pop message that says -1 miles of fuel.
interesting enough i'm also starting to see gas stations pop up on the navi map. If my math is correct should be able to get 459 (17x27) miles per tank (your milage will vary as lexus would say).
I'm going to try to drive around 375 - 400 miles before I add gas or run out of gas. As a side affect I'm hoping the system will learn from how far I drove on a tank of gas and change the reset the computer.
You can also notice in one of the pictures I'm averaging 22.3 fuel economy.
What are the rest of you see for total average fuel economy?

So I found out that our 500H's cut off fuel at the pump really fast.
If I just pump gas normally until it stops, ill get like 12.8-13 gallons tops and the gauge will show full.
However, you can easily squeeze in 3 more gallons by forcing it at the pump. Its very strange.
Happens at every gas station I tried so far.
