Just a note that , after having this car for 1 year my consistent fill up at empty has been about 14 gallons and after fill up I see a range of between 505 - 520.

I am pretty sure with some careful driving I could get over 1000 km on a tank. Not including the reserve.

Lucky you.

Our dash's DTE is usually 410 - 450 miles after a fillup, but when the gauge reads EMPTY its only 300 - 350 miles and takes 11 to 13 gallons US.
That is over a year's time, as well.

You will run out of gas before going 1000km (621miles) Sometimes what the car computer calculates is different than what the actual fuel economy is when you do the math manually.

17.2(hybrid fuel capacity)x 37(hybrid city fuel economy)= 636 miles.

That said, doing it without getting into the reserve would be an accomplishment...

Almost 900 km with 14 litres left. Easily get to 1000 km with decent driving.

The manual says you have 2.6gal, or 10 ltr when the fuel light goes on so maybe you could go 1000km or 621miles? This means that after the light goes on you could put 14.6gallons in the tank. It always seems like the pump kicks off way before that. I don't push in extra fuel once the pump shuts off (evap canister damage). I also don't like the fuel pump getting too hot when you drain the tank down low. I usually fill up once the tank hits 1/4 full.

The manual seems to be wrong about the size of the reserve.

I proved that the RX450h+ holds what Lexus claims without undue topping off, and I'm sure the other RXs are the same. I drove 138 miles past the "Empty" indicator before it truly ran out of gas.

Lexus claims the RX450h+ reserve is 2.2 gallons, but it will only take 11 gallons if you fill up at "Empty," for a 3.5 gallon reserve.

Angry Refueling Issue

I have a 2023 Lexus RX 500h. I love it. I do, however, have a fueling problem. When the fuel light comes on, the user manual says there is about 2.5 gallons of fuel left. When filling the tank after the fuel light comes on, I put about 12 gallons in when the nozzle clicks off. So 12 + 2.5 = 14.5 gallons. The fuel tank holds 17.2 gallons. The car has around 2+ gallons of fuel that are not accounted for. Lexus corporate says it isn't a problem. My dealer's service manager agrees that there are several gallons not accounted for. Anyone else having this issue? I live in central Florida.

Work your way through the many pages in this thread. This issue is discussed at length. Your observation is correct. Poor design? That is one of the discussions. Welcome to the group.

It is nice to confirm that many are having the same issue. I reported this to my dealer. They tested and confirmed my observations. The issue was escalated to Lexus Corporate who declared there was no problem although my dealer’s service manager agrees there are about 2 gallons of fuel not accounted for.

I recommend EVERY OWNER EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE REPORT IT TO THEIR DEALER AND INSIST IT BE ELEVATED TO LEXUS CORPORATE. Only when Lexus acknowledges many are experiencing this issue will they have impetus to take corrective action. I would think a software update would resolve this.

The problem will not be fixed by software. It is a mechanical issue as the pressure stops pump actuator and you have to force it again. Maybe that evaporator needs to be modified.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say here. Do you mean that the fuel filler nozzle is shutting off before the tank is full and that the evaporative emissions system may need to be modified?

I have no problem putting in the full amount of fuel that Lexus claims the tank holds. I just use the low speed setting on the fuel filler. The primary issue is that the reserve is larger than claimed. That could be solved with a software update IF the fuel level sensor in the tank is still measuring fuel level after the level indicator is showing empty. I have been unable to see the raw fuel level sensor data in Torque OBD2 monitor though, so I don't know if it is still seeing fuel level. It could also be a physical limitation of the fuel level sensor, which would mean that it would take redesigned parts to rectify.

Prior to the dealership advising me NOT to do this, several times I added fuel after the filler nozzle shut off. The filler nozzle would shut off after about 3 seconds of fill. I continued this for several minutes and was able to add 4 gallons. This apparently is not good as fuel is getting into evaporator spaces but 4 gallons of space seems like a lot. I now stop fueling after the first nozzle shut off - typically a little over 12 gallons when fueling after the low fuel light has come on. It would seem I have about 4.5 gallons left in the tank when the low fuel light comes on.
