Thumbs up Oil Change DYI No Issues

For those of you who DIY your oil changes...
So now I am at my 70th trip around the sun, I have done a few oil changes in my lifetime. Today I did my first one on my new RX350h at 3,400 miles (first chance I got). This was the simplest, quickest, cleanest oil change I ever did. Two observations however, this 0W-13 oil behaves like water! Make sure to have a deep pan or some kind of splash pad to prevent splashing when the oil hits your pan. Secondly, invest in an oil filter wrench (cap) as the factory filter is really in tight and I could not remove by hand or Channellock's without destroying the filter.
I only do it myself because I am a long time believer in Mobil 1 and unless I can buy the oil and filter and have a shop change it for me I don't trust those quick change places. So, here is what I purchased and the total cost:

5qt container of Mobil 1 0W-16 @ $35.06
1 Toyota OEM Filter 90915-YZZN1 @ $5.97
1 Toyota OEM Gasket (Crush Washer) @ $1.16
Total Materials: $42.19

Oil Filter Wrench - Lisle 65mm, 14 flutes Lisle Part Number 61600 @ $15.79
10mm socket or #2 Phillips to remove undercarriage cover, 4 screws
14mm socket for the oil pan plug
Ramps (did I really wait until I was 70 to invest in ramps that make this job so much safer and easier)

NOTE: The oil drained was a clean amber color and no noticeable metal shavings were found in the pan or on the drain plug.

I just completed 66 circumnavigations around the sun and have done MANY oil changes during this time as well. I just did my first change at 1,008 miles on my RX500h and couldn't agree with you more. This was probably the simplest AND cleanest oil change I have ever performed. The only difference is the RX500h uses 5.6 quarts of Mobil 1 0W-20. I used my Race Ramps as well. It took me a total of about 25 minutes from pulling onto the ramps until backing off.

Easy Peasy, Lemon Squeezy!

It’s spelled DIY not DYI

it stands for do-it-yourself
