Is 240,000 miles on a 2013 GS450h too much? I'm tempted to buy one but worried about the high mileage. What kind of maintenance do I expect from such high mileage car? How does these usually last?

@myLexus007 - Well, the car is not really all that old - about 12 years, averaging about 20k miles per year which likely is mostly easy highway miles. With 200k - 240k miles already logged it will definitely be a test case for sure. My guess is, it probably has much more to go.

The GS 450h is great car. I really like mine. I hope you get it!

Do you have any idea at all about the car's service history? Is the car being offered by a Lexus dealer or some other party?

Mine is a 2018 GS 450h which I bought a couple years ago with only 5k miles on it. It only has 17k miles on it now. Fantastic car! I do not plan on parting with it.

Don’t. Too many miles. False economy. Parts are expensive for the GS, its not a Camry.

With that age and miles, I would have questions about battery capacity/degraded performance and the ability to replace the battery. Additionally, at that mileage, all of the suspension bushing and ball joints should be inspected for replacement.

I think it greatly depends where the car was owned and driven and how much of the mileage was highway driving. If it was in cold country with snow and salt on the roads and lots of potholes, that is much different from being owned and driven in a warm climate with decent roads. I car driven practically straight on a smooth road in warm climate is not going to wear out suspension parts like some areas. Nothing wrong with having things inspected just in case...

Rubber, even in the best of conditions, dries out and becomes brittle over time. Many vehicle manufacturers advise replacing tires after 6 years, regardless of condition, mileage, or wear.

At the end of the day, it really depends on the previous owner and if they took meticulous care of it. If they can provide maintenance records and it’s a long list of consistent maintenance and they’ve replaced stuff like struts, water pump etc recently. If the body looks clean, and again it was well maintained, I say it’s worth it if you’re getting a steep discount for a GS450h. The Toyota/Lexus batteries are generally pretty reliable, and I’ve found the higher mileage ones tend to be ok vs the really low mileage ones that sit a lot, but that’s my experience

I concur, but obviously the car has gone through many sets of tires and likely has a decent and fairly recently purchased set of tires on it now. With respect to rubber bushings, grommets, seals, weatherstripping, etc. - for a vehicle that is about 12 years old those parts are generally still in quite good condition and don't need to be replaced. There are plenty of 2013 model Lexus and Toyota vehicles in all parts of the world that have rubber parts in perfectly satisfactory condition.

With a vehicle like this one I personally would not be concerned with anything other than mechanical parts and the traction battery and 12 volt battery. I would guess this car has been serviced regularly with reasonable oil changes and such. I suspect is something like a parking sensor or water pump needed to be replaced - the previous owner had it replaced. I would rather have the typical vehicle that had been driven 20,000 miles a year than a vehicle that was mistreated or not reasonably cared for - or includes a lot of personal modifications (suspension, lighting, electronics, exhaust, body, ignition/fuel tune, etc.) modifications. I'll take a stock, original vehicle over the latter every time... A vehicle that is driven ~20,000 miles a year has almost certainly seen an easy life of being driven most of those miles at moderate rpms on Interstates and highways with very little stop 'n go heavy traffic and transmission shifting.

I propose that this particular high-mileage 2013 Lexus GS 450h could easily be equivalent to some other 4GS model with less than half the mileage, possibly much less mileage.

Perhaps to state the obvious, you can inspect and check things all you want, but most parts work until they don't! Then, you repair or replace them.

I don't think you should be concerned at all with the age of a 2013 model GS 450h, and not overly concerned with the high mileage.

As long as you understand and accept its age and mileage, just drive it like any other vehicle and service it when needed.
