I am looking at a 2010 RX450H with 225k. My question is in regard to the battery. My research says they are normally good for 100k-200k and are very expensive to replace. I have also read that if the battery is dead, the car will not run. Coming to you experts to see if there is anything I might be missing here? Thanks!
This issue has been discussed again and again and search will pull up many threads/posts. The life can be shorter or longer than expected life.
The answer is ... we cant predict at what point you will encounter problems. The manufacturer has published warranty period and even expected life statement. At the time of purchase, please pay some one to get the health statement of every cell.
When the battery fails, Lexus recommends replacing the whole battery [ask local Lexus for the price]. EV shops can replace the failing cells and even weak cells.
I am very happy with my 2011 hybrid, but I urge perspective buyers to compare the non-hybrid with hybrid. Hybrid is better in city stop and go traffic. If that is not how you intend to drive it, then get the non-hybrid.
I like using the Dr.Prius App with the Carista Bluetooth OBD reader. Checking the readings shows a lot of information, but it seems the voltage difference and internal resistance values are the predictive data for issues with the battery.
Currently have 330,000km with no driveability issues, still great mileage figures for mostly city stop and go traffic.
