I don't remember him saying that. But the brochure I got from him is not yet specific.

JRB,

It really is only a guess as to what the MPG will be but I based my range more on the Prius, which is rated as 60/51/55 MPG (City/Highway/Avg).

If you look at Honda, their range is much smaller, with the Insight getting 60/65 (City/Highway) and the Hybrid Civic at 45/51 for manual and 48/47 for auto transmission.

Ford's Hybrid Escape is looking at 35-40 MPG City but unsure of the highway MPG. It is smaller though then an RX. Ford also didn't list the expected highway MPG for their hybrid Escape.

I don't think the piont of the RX400h is necessarily to have amazing gas mileage compared to all vehicles, instead, I understood that it will boast 6-cylinder gas mileage with 8-cylinder power and performance.

Check page 3 of this discussion. I scanned from the Lexus brochure and it states 36 highway, 31 city.

31/36 Highway/City would be great.

GS Doug, when did you receive the hybrid brochure?

Assuming that the Toyota Highlander Hybrid and RX400H have similar sized fuel tanks and specs, Toyota's site claims the Hybrid Highlander will have a cruising range of over 600 miles on a single tank of gas. Current tank size for regular Highlanders and RX330's is 19.1 and 19.2 respectively. That equals about 31.4 MPG highway, if you assume cruising is highway driving. Looks pretty close to what GS Doug is saying is on the hybrid brochure.

Picked up the brochure a day or two after the vehicle was announced. The brochure also states that the range will be over 600 miles on a tank of gas.

Got a phone call from my dealer about two hours ago. The RX400H is going to be 4k over a similarly equipped RX330. He also said that they are only going to get one RX400H per month for the first year. I put a deposit down for one which simply guarantees my place in getting one. He said I am first on the list. They are going to be quite popular he expects.

how much did you have to put down for the deposit? Did you get to pick what options you wanted with the car?

Shortbear, they wanted a 500.00 deposit. He said he would call when the time is closer to actually place the order for options. This just basically puts me in line to be able to get one since the supply at first will be so little. My plan is to get the exact options I have now, but may change color. But I have until probably August to decide. The RX400H is due out in October.

WTH?! That's hard to believe.. That would mean Lexus is building a few thousand RX400h in the first year! I doubt the dealer is telling the truth.

I'm just repeating what the dealer told me. We could have a few here call their dealers and ask.

My dealer also said they are expecting 1 or 2 400h utes per month. Something about not wanting to outshine the RX330, since the 330 is their big seller.
