USA Today gas mileage ...
HTML Code:
A test vehicle's trip computer showed 26.9 mpg in 52 miles that ranged from full-bore highway acceleration to creeping through neighborhoods.
HTML Code:
Trying to merely edge past somebody on the highway, the 400h strides up to 80 mph without a hint of exertion.

I got 27MPG in a mixed city/hwy drive..
in January. We got our first RX400h in yesterday and it was delivered about 3 hours later. The car has attracted a new type of customer that used to buy Volvos. We probably will not be able to have a spare car to demo at first because the earliest deposits are a year and a half old. I was out driving a factory reps car today and the instant power is kind of intoxicating. When at a stoplight as you move forward it is eerily silent. You keep waiting for the transmission to shift but it never does. It develops a little growl when you get on the accelerator. But overall it is a pretty seamless driving experience. The Aluminum accents are not as warm as the wood in the conventional RX and seems a little sterile. The wheels look polished and ours was equipped with Goodyear tires. The tail lights are bright with the LED's and have neat little louvers that denote the hybrid from a distance. We have stepped into the future now...

Journalists Comments
I see a lot of articles say that your only expected to save about $300 per year with the RX400. One writes it, and the rest follow. Most journalists don't really have an original thought of their own. What I'd like to know is the basis for this. I did some numbers myself, and I can't seem to produce $300/year. With the exception of extremely low mileage per year, or highway only. See below.

Against the V-8 competiton, the RX400h LITERALLY has double the gas savings. with no performance degregation.

Edmunds got only 22mpg out of the RX400h and 23mpg from the Highlander Hybrid. Again the real-world mileage is always much lower.

I live in Europe and I just drove the RX400h for 2 days.
Metric factory figures are:
City 9.1 l/100km
Highway 7.6 l/100km
Average 8.1 l/100km
I used 2 types of driving styles in the city. 1st normal driving, did not brake the speed limit, didn't overtake agressively, didn't accelerate hard form the stoplight - I got 9.1-9.2 l/100km (25.8 mpg).
2nd driving style I used, was very agressive, could even call it stupid. Accelerated full throttle all the time I could, overtook everybody very fast who was in front of me, at stoplights accelerated very fast, I was over speedlimit all the time, belive me RX400h accelerates like crazy, comparable with 4.4 V8 BMW X5, but the acceleration is seamless and overwhelmingly torquey smooth even with hard acceleration - it's was quite a new experience for me. Then I got 10.8-11.2 l/100km (21.7 mpg) in the city.
I also got to do some highway driving, but it was raining heavily, with cruise control on, I got 7.8 l/100km (30.1 mpg).
