Is the V6 Hybrid confirmed? B/c at thecarconnection.com today, they mention that it will be a V8 hybrid.

A V8 hybrid would be awesome ...Either way, we'll know by next week!

I think they're wrong or confused if they think the GS450h is a V8 hybrid, because the 450 designation means the hybrid will perform like a 4.5 litre gasoline engine, which is very weak for a V8 hybrid, so it must be a V6 hybrid, & from what I've heard here, will be the 3.5 engine mated with the HSD.

However, I would welcome if they mate the HSD with a V8 for the new GS too, which is what is reported they'll do with the 07 LS

eh, if they gave us an penny for all the bad info we read in mags about upcoming lexus products... It makes you wonder about their credibility (IS350 making 245hp, V6 diesel for 2006 GS in Europe, etc, etc)

Well alot of these magazines will get info and blow it out of proportion. I don't believe rumors until they are published directly from Lexus HQ or they come from real credible sources like Team Lexus or etc.

Default We need a sticky or something

The GS450h is a 3.5V6 hybrid in a Rear Wheel Drive configuration. This is from the production engineers at a Lexus training in January which covered the new 400h and the 3rd Gen GS which was present at the training. It will likely outperform the GS430 while using a V6 for HP and a motor/generator for torque and recharging the Hybrid battery. I am familiar with these guys and they are instrumental in Lexus training and go to Japan all of the time. The GS350 is already in testing in Japan and the 450h is a variant of the GS350 which should arrive a little later than the GS450h. Luckily we will have it straight from Denny Clements next week in New York City.

Speaking of Denny, he has a nice office at Lexus HQ in Torrance. When I visited there a couple weeks ago, his office view is the front of the facility overlooking the parking lot. He can park anywhere he pleases too!

Wow! I had no idea the 450H would debut so soon! (even if we cannot drive it for another year)

You got to visit Lexus HQ in Torrance? Nice! I'm looking forward to Denny's speech on the new
IS and the GS in NY. I think he does a great job of promoting Lexus. Not over the top, just
classy all the way!

Default Denny Clements has guided Lexus to the top

Jim Press was another fine spokesman and leader for Lexus. I didn't think it would be easy to fill the void when he was given the leadership mantle for Toyota USA. Denny Clements has a relaxed style and is instantly likable. Either Jim or Denny would get my vote in an election were they to run for office. At this junction Lexus is entering the execution phase of a new strategy. After having some time to get to know the new GS I am more than a little enthused. The RX400h is following closely on its heels with a paradigm shifting SUV and has presold about half of the first years production without a test drive. Denny has done his job well. It makes me proud to represent this brand.

It's not just gas money savings that's to be taken into consideration. You get V8 like performance but better gas mileage than the GS3 Plus the resale should be higher too, so you don't just take the initial price difference between the 2 into consideration.

1. The GS 450h will be show in NY next week. So really, only us diehards and Lexus knows about it, so there is no demand created yet.
2. That will change when the car debuts in NY and starts hitting the show circuit, like the RX 400h. The RX 400h has 12k DEPOSITS already, amazing. So I expect another line to buy the GS 450h, but not as many people, maybe 1000-2000 deposits.
3. The RX 400h is a loaded RX 330 with the hybrid tech. It sits atop the RX food chain. Now I am not sure how Lexus will position the 450h in the GS lineup, above the GS 430 (V-8)? But I do expect the 450h to be loaded like the 400h for now, so a loaded GS 300 is around 51k, add another 5k to that, so a 56k 450h is what I expect, unless demand drives the price up. 56k for a loaded GS 450h would be less than a loaded GS 430 at 62k
4. Fuel economy, well, I am not sure if the 450h will use the 3.0 V-6 or the 3.5 V-6 from the Avalon. But both engines rate at about 22 MPG city, 30MPG highway as gas only. With a hybrid, I would expect it to be around 30MPG combined. And this is with increased power. The Lexus gas only engines are already some if not the most efficient compared to its competiton.
5. The RX 400H offers V-8 performance with I-4 fuel economy , looking at test results in multiple magazines. Expect the GS 450h to do the same.

As for the sticky, good call, when we see the car debuted next week, we'll have one (you called it)
I think you're right on nearly all of your info, one minor note I'd make: the 3.5 won't come from the Avalon, it'll come from the IS350. They're similar engines, but the Avalon is FWD, and the IS is RWD with Direct Injection and Dual VVT-i.

Considering the 50K price of the 06 RX 400h, I wouldn't be suprised with a 60K GS 450h.

The 3.5L 2GR-FSE will share the same block and other technologies, but the intake/header routing will obviously be different, transversely mounted and mated to a different tranny and horsepower. Regardless, it's not a matter of where it will come from, the engine is the same period but w/the obvious differences. The Avalon's 2GR-FSE is also direct injection w/Dual VVT-i.

THanks, good observation, your right about that

So do ya'll want a sticky now? And we can link what info Rockvile and others have so far, so when the live camera is on, we can all flock to the hybrid sticky.

OH JOY!!!
