Default Horsepower ratings are misleading when talking..

about Hybrids. Each electric motor is capable of more than the rated horsepower if more power is available. This means the only limit is the battery. The LS600hL has a newly developed battery to match its expense and exclusivity. The V8 should be detuned for emission reduction and ease of starting. The Horsepower will come from the 5.0 V8 but may not be dramatically different from the LS460 V8's output because of the detuning. The acceleration action will occur in the electric motors not just the combustion chamber of the V8. Since there are two sources of torque and the amount of juice supplied to the motors make it an abstract exercise to rate the horsepower. Let's just discuss the results of the powertrain's forces. The LS460 is conservatively listed with a 0-60 of under 5.5 seconds. When I drove the GS450h without a stopwatch I counted 5 seconds with 4 adult men in the car. My factory engineering source tells me that the LS600hL will launch to 60 MPH in under 5 seconds. That is one can of whoopass...

I wonder if the GS 450h will get the 'Lexus Synergy Drive'...probably 2008 yr like the LS 600h L...

And maybe the 'blue 450h' tag will be available as an option/accessory. But it's true 'LS 600h L' is the longest Lexus moniker to date...and it is actually 'LS 600h L AWD'...lol

The Lexus LS teaser site is now calling it the 'Lexus LS Series' which is pretty amazing, although they used a lot of 460 L photos, and don't have much of a separate 460 L section. Perhaps their marketing will see the 460 L as part under the 600h L? I doubt it, the 460 L is the ultimate gasoline 'normal' Lexus flagship.

not really teh engine gains a lot of overall power (usually losing mileage in most engines) and even with hybridization i still think its worth it even if you maintain mileage from the less powerful version, and if you can go higher even better

i think some gloating is in order towards MB, Audi, and BMW:

BOOM HEADSHOT

yes there is more power, but when people think of hybrid, they think of better MPG not HP or power, so at least 4-5 MPG increase is necessary...

lexus will shatter that thinking as they focus on performance as toyota focuses on economy. People who dont know about hybrids deeply do not realize the performance benefits of electric motoring (ferocious low end torque). Lexus electric motoring is much much more aggressive than toyotas because of this. Camry hybrids electric motor was making only 47 hp the GS450h dual motors make almost 200 hp by themselves, the LS600h motoring is going to be at least even with the GS motoring

totally agree. hp numbers might be just "ok", but the hybrid engine tq gain is something!

it kinda looks weird with the L separated from the rest of the car emblem...it should've just been continuous like 750Li...LS600hL, not LS600h L...it just looks weird

it's just a small detail

Fortunately, this is the only bad thing that I can see with this car...

I actually like it seperated slightly that way, it's long & it doesn't look as cluttered the way it is now.

So... Has the question of three across seating in the back been answered?
