just saw a weird sight today in manhattan, a RX400h as a Yellow Taxi.

does anyone of you know something about it ? Must be nice to be the cab driver ....

 

I have seen Highlander and Escape hybrids but not a RX400h. It must look hideous in Taxi yello.

 

I' ve seen yellow Toyota Prius taxi's here.

but never a lexus

i guess since there are BMW and mercedes taxis, lexus taxis are bound to happen too

 

Quoting from the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission:rules, "The Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner, the Honda Accord, the Honda Civic, the Lexus RX400H, the Toyota Highlander, and the Toyota Prius. The rule permits the hack-up of any of these six models. "

 

wow .... the driver who gets the RX400h must be drawn by lottery or what .. if not, everyone would want the RX.

He gets the most luxurious and the fastest car out of the bunch of hybrids. Hope to flag one down soon ..

 

i am pretty sure they will have a taxi for the new GS450h when it becomes more main stream...

I just picked up my GS450h and think that it would really suck as a taxi because it has practically no trunk space. Fortunately I rarely need put anything in my trunk and if I need to carry suitcases I would use my RX400h

 

Just spotted the 400h taxi here in NYC this morning on my way in.

Stunned me for a second also!

 

wow.. lucky driver. Haven't seen any hybrid SUV taxis. All the hybrid taxis here are Priuses (and a handful Camrys).

 

I could be wrong, but don't we have a CL member that drives an Rxh as a Taxi? Maybe he/she can chime in.

 

One of my friends said he has been in Europe several times and has seen more than one RX300 taxi there. Given that an equivalent Lexus would cost less in the U.S., I don't see why not.

 

I wonder how many RX400h OZO car http://www.ozocar.com/ have on the road I saw a Prius from them once.

 

Yes, a NYC taxi company started using Ford Escape Hybrid as yellow cabs. Many customers complained about the small backseats, so they bought some RX400h and Highlander for the fleet.

Seems outrageous to use Lexus as a yellow cab. Though if you factor in the fuel saving, lower maintenance and repair cost, etc. Operating the RX400h is actually cheaper than running the old Ford Crown Vic.

The NYC taxi medallion is about $150,000 and up.
