RX330 Lease up in June '07...Should I go 350 or 400H?
#16
I can't help but keep thinking about that South Park episode when people mentioned the "cool" factor for driving hybrid...
The RX400h "may be" faster or quicker than the RX350 AWD, but under full throttle acceleration, the sound of the 400h's engine/motor/CVT just beg you not to pedal to the metal. It's harsh, it sounds like a bad supercharger whining. Braking is worse on the 400h. A lot to do with the weight. Torque steer is significant. The RX350 has better driving dynamic than the 400h.

Car and Driver: RX350 0-60: 6.8 sec
Car and Driver: RX400h 0-60: 6.9 sec
So how is the 400h faster? I think this is a misconception which was a reality with the RX330. I think people don't realize that there is a nearly 40hp increase on the RX350 which isn't just a 'little'. I think it's pretty significant.
Anyways, RX350 and RX400h are equal in performance.

The tests are performed on different days at different locations and different temperature. Unless you perform the test on both cars at the same time with the same driver, you can't really make full sense of those numbers.
HOWEVER, 0-60 is not the only factor in evaluation performance. With the extra weight, and front-bias drive-train, the 400h takes longer distance to stop and doesn't handle as well as the 350

I agree with you. As far as those tests, yes they may not be truly comparable unless the same conditions can be matched...however I think anyone can agree that the RX350 and the RX400h perform nearly identically when it comes to acceleration.
Let me summarize what all of you have been saying and list some pros of the RX350.
RX350 Pros:
Better braking (because of lower vehicle weight)
Better handling (because of lower vehicle weight)
Better AWD system that is full time AWD with upgrades in '07 delivering better all weather driving than RX400h AWD.
No Torque Steer like there is in the 400h
Quieter under heaver throttle
RX350 Cons:
Lower fuel economy than RX400h only in the city
I think that covers it.
