Blackbelt, I am thinking you wonna check your tire pressure,

and friends, I am gonna fill my tires with Nitrogen, any nagsayers for that? it's $80CAD + 15% tax, pretty sharp for bloody air, though I read good things about it

hey! buy me a case of beer and save yourself the 80$, go to Coscto, it's FREE...
or, go to Canadian Tire, I think they charge like 3-5$ per tire to refill with nitrogen.

FWIW, the only drawback is if you need some air, you will need to refill with NITROGEN as well, otherwise, your SOL.

Cheers,

Now I am actually curious as to how mileage has varied since this pole was engendered. Has your mileage gone up or down?

My latest report, 350KM Blow by blow

Went from Toronto to Marineland (Niagara Falls) on Canada Day (July 1),

I live in Scarborough (East end of Toronto), going west to Niagara Falls, with 6 people in the car (kids included), it is fully fully loaded, I am also brining a wheelchair and water etc, happened to fill up just before I get on the 401 at Kennedy, on the 401 going west,I was doing about 8.2L (28mpg)by the time I get to Oakville (the largest Ford Plant), I am in what turn out to be a 100km traffic jam all going from Toronto to Niagara Falls, so with my Navigation pack, I got off the highway and taking all the side roads, cutting through the Bronte Creek Provincial Park etc, I got to Niagara Falls 5 hours later (normally takes 1.5 hour), and my mpg is 7.9 L (30mpg), at this point I was happy, so we spent some time around Niagara on the Lake and had dinner, by the time I got back it's 10:45pm, and everyone in the car is tired, and guess what, it's also a 100km traffic jam going back to Toronto, so I took the 407 (expensive toll road, meaning there is nobody on it, no cops either) just outside of St Catherines, it's a $50 toll trip but it's worth it, my mpg was 8.0L before I started on the 407, and I was doing 135Km/h with the cruise control on all the way, that took the mpg to 8.8L (27mpg), which is still pretty damn good, me very happy with these numbers

Default better milege on highway than city??!!

We started leasing a new 400h in February 2007. So far we've driven about 4000 miles. Oddly we are getting much much better gas milege on the highway (about 28mpg) than in the city (about 21mpg). I noticed the battery is often only about 1/2 charged and sometimes dips below to 2 or 3 bars. Could this be the reason for the counterintuitive fuel efficiency?? Anyone have any ideas? Please comment.

I sold my GX470 and bought the sister car to the RX400H, the HiHy. Fuel economy is MUCH lower than perpetrated (26 vs. the advertised 31 for the 4wd version like the Lex). Here is a site that you can see how others are doing with each vehicle. They also have a decent forum there for additional discussion.

I'm confused by your post. You have been following this forum, so you must have known that the real Highlander mileage would be about the same as the RX400h and in the area of 26 mpg. Your use of the word perpetrated implies that somehow Toyota did something to you. The fault with the high window sticker mpg is that the test was defined by the US government. Changes are being made so that the next mileage numbers (2008) will be more realistic. There are no other comperable SUV's that will get you 26 mpg with a lot of city driving.

What am I missing?

The original thread ask about fuel economy. I get 26MPG. Like many others we learned of this fact only a couple of weeks after we acquired ours (over a year ago). None of this was known a year ago as most buyers thought they had "some" possibility of getting somewhere near the EPA posting. You are welcome to be estatic getting 75% of what was promised, it doesn't mean that I have to be. If there had been greater truth in postings (no matter who's fault), I doubt I would have sold the GX in the first place as it was a FAR better vehicle than the RX400H or the HyHi IMHO (of course).

Averaged 27 mpg on a 600 mile trip to my parent's lake house. Met up with my uncle who is now convinced that he will trade in his ailing Durango for an RX400h.
