Default LS600h 121k and lower MPG?? What was the point?

Ok, so late Saturday night i found a 600h sitting 'outside' of all places at Perfomance Lexus in Cincinnati. Last i heard they would run about 100k.. Not.. This thing had a sticker of 121k ! I also thought the whole point of this car was to be a hybrid.. there was a LS460L sitting right next to it for 78k that other than the headlights and lexus logos, looked exactly the same, yet the MPG info on the sticker was 18/27 , the 600h was 20/22.. so overall, the 460 is still the more efficient car by 3mpg on average, or 5mpg on the highway.. So what in the 600h is worth the price of a loaded IS or ES over the LS460 other than its a little faster which is pointless on these roads and traffic today..

Heck, ya can buy two GS's and take a Carribean cruise for the price of the 600h..

1) 121k ls600hl is FULLY LOADED with exec package. "base" price for 600hl which already has most options on the 460l is 104k, with another package in the middle bumping it to 110k

2) this is v8 hybrid. you cannot compare it to another v8. you compare the gas mileage to another v12 out there and see what happens. lexus hybrid are more about performance

The 600h being a '08 model have to use the EPA '08 estimates that are more "realistic" than the EPA '07 estimate that the '07 460L uses...

and there is the SULEV emissions rating versus the ULEV II emissions rating of the LS460L , Oh & the AWD & extra leather too . . .

I think you can get two 5 series & a carribean vacation for the price of a BMW 760Li too, which is about as fast as a 750Li maybe except at the high end, but with 14 mpg city / 22 mpg hwy . . .

People get the V12's mostly for exclusivity & status, you always get less value for the $.

You do get significant performance gains only with the twin turbo V12's of the Mercedes flagship, but the price premium over the V8 version is more . . .

If we all purchased cars based on price and gas mileage alone, the world would be driving Honda Civic Hybrids. It's not always about maximizing everything. I, for example, am purchasing an LS600hL because of the technology. I own a technology company and enjoy buying products that showcase what can be done. I bought the first LS430 Ultra Luxury Edition when it came out in November 2000 for the same reason.

Yes, it is also nice to be friendly to the environment. But this car is about blending power, technology, luxury, and better overall gas mileage. Lexus understand this…and that is why it is a limited production car priced as it is. It is NOT for everyone. It is for those who are willing to pay for the privilege to have a showcase vehicle.

Um, shouldn't a V8 'hybrid' be compared to a normal V8 and thus be more efficient. Kinda like the Honda Civic 4cyl gets 30/40mpg and the Civic Hybrid (also a 4cyl) gets 49/51 mpg ??

also, if the hybrid is about performace, then LS460=0-60 5.4sec, 600h 0-60 5.5sec (from lexus.com) , yea the 460 number is probably not from an 'L' , so ok, they're about even...

One other aspect of the LS 600h is the markedly lower smog-forming, polluting emissions. More power and similar fuel economy.

errr... no.....

ls460 is v8. ls600h is v8 PLUS a hybrid engine. how can you compare it to the ls460? just like the gs. gs350 is just v6. gs430/460 is v8. gs450h is v6 + hybrid. you compare that car to the gs430/460, you don't compare it with the gs350.... again, lexus hybrid is more about performance. toyota / honda hybrid are more about efficiency. you put them together and you are just going in loops

when you get more and more cylinders, a lot of times the 0-60 are about the same. it's the high end speed that's crazy. some v8 and v6 cars are about the same from 0-60, but from 60 - 100 the v8 will pull away. with v12 (or comparable) power, from 80 or so the pickup is insane. looking at just the 0-60 number is far from enough
