LS600hL road trip
#77
I have a V12. It get's 9mpg when I'm not driving it in anger. Less otherwise. I can see the gas gauge move - seriously, I can see it move when I drive.
Amazing difference in mileage between the two.

Long road trip report....
OK, I finally put some "serious miles" on the 600hL. Drove from The Santa Cruz, CA area to Salt Lake City Utah.
Averaged 22.5 MPG (90% of it was at 88 MPH). Why 88 MPH you might ask? - I found another "limitation" on the 600hL - it appears that Cruise Control won't work at anything above 140 Kilometers Per Hr (which is 88 MPH). Not that big of a deal, but another "nanny" limit that I wasn't aware of prior to this. The normal flow of traffic on this stretch of Interstate 80 was 80-90 MPH anyway ("suggested" speed limit is 75) :-)
Yes, I know thats (sort of) fast - but it most of it was crossing Nevada - there really isn't much in between Reno and Salt Lake, unless you think Winnemucca, Battle Mountain, Elko, and Wendover are "big cities". :-)
I did take it up over 100 for a small time, just to see how it "felt" in this car. It really didn't seem like 100+ - it was fairly quiet - until I rolled down the windows while going that fast - VERY LOUD with the windows down :-)
Sammy Hagar's "I can't drive 55" was cranking on the stereo during part of it - it was classic.

You CAN set the cruise control past 88 MPH is you turn off the laser guided version and put it in "normal" mode. They you can set it at any speed you like... you just don't get the electronic nanny to slow you down automatically if someone cuts in front of you.

88 was plenty fast anyway. I was in highway patrol scan mode the whole time since I didn't have time to get the radar detector installed before the trip.
Milage was pretty good considering it included going up over over the Sierra's, and I was at a reasonably high altitude after leaving the Sacramento valley.

The radar cruise control is an improvement over the laser cruise control on my LS430.
1. It doesn't cut out as early in inclement weather.
2. The laser cruise control was often fooled by a large truck in the lane to the right and would panic at the last minute. This doesn't happen with the LS600hL.
