I have a V12. It get's 9mpg when I'm not driving it in anger. Less otherwise. I can see the gas gauge move - seriously, I can see it move when I drive.

Amazing difference in mileage between the two.

Isn't that about what an LS460 will get?

Must have been on a toll road, I don't think you can sustain 75 on I-4 or
I-95

I have LS460L and I'm getting 29-30 mpg on the highway (average speed - 72mph) and about 15mpg in the city with average speed of 24mph. A bit disappointed with the city consumption, but oh well...

Default Long road trip report....

OK, I finally put some "serious miles" on the 600hL. Drove from The Santa Cruz, CA area to Salt Lake City Utah.

Averaged 22.5 MPG (90% of it was at 88 MPH). Why 88 MPH you might ask? - I found another "limitation" on the 600hL - it appears that Cruise Control won't work at anything above 140 Kilometers Per Hr (which is 88 MPH). Not that big of a deal, but another "nanny" limit that I wasn't aware of prior to this. The normal flow of traffic on this stretch of Interstate 80 was 80-90 MPH anyway ("suggested" speed limit is 75) :-)

Yes, I know thats (sort of) fast - but it most of it was crossing Nevada - there really isn't much in between Reno and Salt Lake, unless you think Winnemucca, Battle Mountain, Elko, and Wendover are "big cities". :-)

I did take it up over 100 for a small time, just to see how it "felt" in this car. It really didn't seem like 100+ - it was fairly quiet - until I rolled down the windows while going that fast - VERY LOUD with the windows down :-)

Sammy Hagar's "I can't drive 55" was cranking on the stereo during part of it - it was classic.

You CAN set the cruise control past 88 MPH is you turn off the laser guided version and put it in "normal" mode. They you can set it at any speed you like... you just don't get the electronic nanny to slow you down automatically if someone cuts in front of you.

Funny, 88 MPH was the speed at which the time travel was initiated in "Back to the Future"! I wonder if the programmer was a fan of the movie ....

Hmm. I didn't try that. I actually like the laser guided version - There was at least a 200 mile section of road I never had to touch the gas or brake - even with people cutting in front of me. It was "really cool". There was a couple times where I still didn't "trust" the system, and put my foot over the brake ready if needed, but the car did the right thing... Once it had to slow down pretty fast due to some idiot deciding he needed to be in the fast lane going 60, in a 75 MPH zone, while as I was coming up on him at 88 -

88 was plenty fast anyway. I was in highway patrol scan mode the whole time since I didn't have time to get the radar detector installed before the trip.

Milage was pretty good considering it included going up over over the Sierra's, and I was at a reasonably high altitude after leaving the Sacramento valley.

The radar cruise control is an improvement over the laser cruise control on my LS430.

1. It doesn't cut out as early in inclement weather.

2. The laser cruise control was often fooled by a large truck in the lane to the right and would panic at the last minute. This doesn't happen with the LS600hL.

Good to know that the radar cruise control system is improved, I remember hopeful speculation when the car came out that this would be the case.

How do you put it in "normal" mode vs radar mode?
