GS450h. Why?

I have driven a GS 450h, GS 350 and GS 430 all for an extended period of time and quite honestly...I see no reason to buy the 450h unless you like the unique hybrid powertrain.
GS 350 returns 33MPG on the highway and I averaged 28mpg in combined driving, not to mention it rips from 0-60 in about the same time as the 450h.
The GS 450h I drove was a pretty flat 26MPH on the highway or city, never really varied. Torque is great, but the batteries have to be fully charged.
IMO with all things considered the best GS is the 350.

I think to some people, Hybrid is a status symbol and to others its all about being green. Technology as of now, there is no cheaper power train to run then gasoline. Until we can find cost effective fuel besides gasoline, we will be fighting a lot more wars just like the one in Iraq.

in February, 2007, a proposed draft of a new law to structure Iraq’s oil industry was leaked, and it is now being considered by the Iraqi parliament. Several key features of the law would:
Allow two-thirds of Iraq’s oil fields to be developed by private oil corporations. In contrast, the oil industry has been nationalized in every other major Middle Eastern producer for over 30 years.
Place governing decisions over oil in a new body known as the Iraqi Federal Oil and Gas Council, which may include foreign oil companies;
Open the door for foreign oil companies to lock up decades-long deals now, when the Iraqi government is at its weakest.
Overall, the law would secure the agenda of ExxonMobil, Chevon, and the other majors, robbing the Iraqi people of their most basic source of wealth. Much is at stake. With 115 billion barrels of proven reserves ($7 trillion worth at $64 per barrel) and another 215 billion possible or likely ($14 trillion), there’s nearly a million dollars of oil for every Iraqi citizen. It’s a vast and precious national resource.

Well, I think the topic on saving money on gas should be closed by now. If 450h potential buyers think on saving money, or trunk space then they should just go buy Prius... However, if your heavy foot thinks "green" and it won't be your only car in the household then 450h is the car to go. This car is not about saving money... it's about saving environment... I gave up my bmw 645i for this car after I learned german cars became biggest polluters, and i have another one (Range Rover) to be replaced with Porsche's Cayenne hybrid once it is available. It's all about showing people some of us Do care, and hopefully one day they will follow...

Funny, I gave up my 650i for this car. For me it was a combination of environment, practicality (I drop off my kids in the mornings and I hated having them cramped in the back and the hassle of having them get in and out of a 2-door) and performance (still keeping the speed -- 0-60 in 5.2).
Now as gas prices are creeping toward $4/gallon, I'm smirking b/c I'm getting an extra 100 to 150 miles on each fill-up.

was going to get a GS450h, but got the IS-F instead...heh...total opposite...but since I have had hybrids before, I kinda wanted a "regular" car that started up normally...
Although the IS-F gets aboue 18-20mpg combined...I don't mind because I like the performance of the car...
Plus I get looks all the time with my car...although I don't seem to like the attention....

I WOULD buy a gs450h if I could trade in my gs350 '07 for it. BUT if I had to buy it new, then $10k difference is too much. I can see the gas saving in the "h" and every week I fillup my 17mpg gs350, I feel it iin the pocket. hybrid for me sounds great. But unless I keep the car for 10 years, I dont think I owuld make back my $10k.

It will take longer than 10 years to break even on the $10000 premium of the GSh. Seems to me all the Lexus Hybrid doesnt make sense if you are trying to save money, but if you are trying to save the environment, thats a different story.
