Is high idle normal? (LS600hL)
From time to time I notice that my LS600 revs quite high without any reason.
Quite suddenly at a stop it will idle at between 1200 -1500rpm for 30 secs or so, even without any load on the engine like heaters or lights. Normal is around 600rpm.
What is it doing? Trying to get a charge up? I don't have the setting on where I can see the state of charge, and always forget the next time it happens, so I haven't done any analytics on it.
The manual does say it will do this on occasion, but 1500rpm sustained is quite a speed, and noisy too. Sometimes for a hybrid it's downright embarrassing!

Mercedes SLK 230 (wifes)
Suzuki Grand Vitara (rain & runaround)

I've noted this on the 600, unlike my previous 460. I've also noticed it occurs mostly on clear sunny mornings, but rarely on cloudy or wet mornings. It does not seem to happen throughout the rest of the day. I was going to query my dealer, but I doubt they may have a quick answer as most may not have much experience with that particular model. I suspect it is a hybrid phenomena, but is certainly can't be overheating, considering it's mostly in the morning.
This morning, going down a hill, the engine speed kept fluctuating between 1500-2000 rpm, and I tapped the gas pedal lightly which seemed to cause the revs to trip back to 1000. However the revs climbed back up shortly afterward. I've noticed that the hybrid display indicates no engine running when this happens, so that has me stumped. I can only assume then that it is a warm up phase, but it is certainly a lot different than a conventional engine. Nevertheless, I am very pleased and impressed with the fuel economy to date, achieving numbers in the 750-800 kms range/tank with a 50/50 City/Highway mix.
