Default FWD vs AWD

I am looking to buy a 400h but I can't decide on FWD or AWD.
I live in L.A. and do more city driving. I want a smooth ride and
really don't want a jerky feeling when I make turns.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

FWD costs less and weighs less.

Joyce:
I have a 2006 AWD RX400h the ride is smooth and no jerky feeling when I turn. My previous RX300 was the same as well as my son's GS300. Just make sure you have Michelin tires when you get it.
One note there is a height difference between the FWD the RX350 and the RX400h which is the highest.

the AWD in the RX is not a true 4x4 anyways..
i would get the AWD.. it's faster..
it's not that much heavier is it? because the rear wheels are turned by the hybrid system.

yeah, the awd version the rear wheels are turned by another set of hybrid motors, you also have bigger batteries. that's why it weighs more, also has better approach and departure angles. We got a AWD in houston because it rains alot and i wanted more traction then just the fwd.

Basically, the RX350 AWD does 0-60 in 7.4 seconds, the RX400h AWD does 0-60 in 7.3 seconds and the RX400h FWD does 0-60 in 7.5 seconds. The height of the RX350 AWD is 66.1inches, the height of the RX400h AWD is 68.5inches, and the height of the RX400h FWD is 68.3inches. These are all specs from the lexus website. Good luck on your decision!

batteries are the same. The extra weight is probably the extra elec. motor and wires.

The only people who need AWD are those living in states with a lot of snow and / or ice.

Otherwise, it's a waste of $1200.

Front-wheel drive is fine for 98% of the people, especially FWD combined with traction and stability control.

I live in central Oklahoma where we get mostly ice for our winter because we are on the edge. I have FWD and don't regret it at all.
