I want to get a discussion going on pricing. I just purchased one this week and paid $49,800 (with taxes and fees $55,135). Since the car is basically equipped only one way right now, I didn't have many choices. Here's the details:

I was surprised to see that kind of discount that early also. Is it end-of-the-month quota thing? I was expecting to see the RX450h price drop at least three months from the debut.

I think the end of the month had something to do with it, but I really shopped around at dealers all over California. And refused to accept any quote that didn't start with a four.

there was an article in lexus enthusiast this AM about Lexus of North Miami opening a facility with a price tag of 75 million.

In my financial lingo that means just to pay off the costs of a facility like that there is 7.5 mil of fixed costs or more.

Then admin and sales costs.

So lets say base costs to run a dealership like that is 12 million or a million a month.

250k a week.

40k a day.

does that imply a dealer has to make mucho bucks per car sold just to break even?

I know the old argument for dealerships was to BE on the car sale and make money due to service--

But I do not see the service bays at my dealer particularly overloaded either.

I am not worrying about the dealer but it it interesting to understand how this whole thing works--I am thinking the prices/costs per Edmunds etc even with things like holdbacks is way understated
