Hi there,
I am cross shopping RX450h, Q5 and A4 Avant. They are in similar price range. In terms of a driver's car, A4 is the best. In terms of reliability, lexus is lightyears ahead. Q5 offers the space of an SUV but drives almost like a sedan.
I am leaning towards the RX because my wife doesn't really care how the car drives and I am the one maintaining it.
Anyone here cross shopping the three?
I am wonder if the new RX450h is made in Japan or Canada?
thanks.

From Japan.
I did test-driving all 3 (and more) before buying '10RX350. Q5 was on my final list as well. Q5 is such a great SUV for dynamic driving. But, since I'm looking for the quietness, smoothness, and reliability. RX is the winner. Although RX10 has some minor issues, this car is so far so good.
450h is the different beast, you can get lots of reviews from other threads.

But my overall mileage went from 19-20 to 30+. And while I'm driving a little different, it's only a 'little' different, you don't have to try hard over a period of days to realize really great performance coupled with really great mileage in a car that pay's back in spades. Performance, comfort and the constant feeling of comfort and security. Oh, I forgot all the neat toys they call features. And every day I still get excited because I figure something out that buffaloed me before. When the light goes off in your head you realize you were trying to hard to figure something out that's based on 'Plain logic'.
Individual cars turn individual people on and off. No difference here. It's not for everybody. But if you read the posts in the 'hybrid' section it will be hard to find someone that already has one and isn't like the proud papa.
And if the Senate passes the 'Cap & Tax' bill, those of us that already have them will be well ahead of the game. 5000+lbs and over 30mpg average. When you combine that with this comfort, performance, handling, safety, and features, I don't think there is competition of any kind out there at any price.
But I own one so I'm a bit prejudice

Averaging 28.7 MPG US (8.2l/100km) after the first 1100 km. It is far from flat in this country, so that is really good. My MB E320 4-Matic wagon has 80 hp less and consumes 40% more. You won't get that from the other two cars. A4 Avant is a much smaller car. Have not driven the Q5. MB ML much more comfortable than RX with steel suspension. Have not driven it with the air suspension. Non-ventilated seats are a bit sticky.
