Default Hybrid power - have you adapted?

so when i first test drove the GSh, i was like "dayam, this thing is fast!" and the months that followed, whenever i gunned it, my neck would snap back from the acceleration and i would have a big grin on my face.

but lately i feel that it's only sufficient, not great, and wished there was more. i think the problem is that i'm so used to the instant torque, that it doesn't feel like it's enough (i want more!). don't get me wrong, i'm not gunning it from light to light. i do take it easy (at speed limit) especially city driving. highway driving is where i can really put the pedal to the metal, but i find myself quickly running out of ashphalt (either stop light or traffic up ahead).

what about you? do you feel the same way or you think i'm crazy? or do you feel that the power is sufficient or too much? and is it possible to be accustomed to your car's power that you would want more? discuss!

hahaha i don't have the 450h but i have the m3, so i know what you mean. sometimes over time you just take things for granted

but just those few times you really need the power and the car delivers, there you

Had the car for 3 years now. It's inevitable to want more power, but that's not an important question in my mind. I feel the important question is: did you ever try a maneuver where 450h did not have enough power to complete it? For me the answer would be a resounding "NO".

Hi Bros,
Just sharing my experience with Gsh, i have got my car for about 4 months and are still not very used with the power. But i really enjoyed the ease of overtaking.....u know...i can have it slow....and fast any time i want...
Going into the highways to merge with the fast moving traffic is an ease to me...with the instant torque avaliable almost immediately..

I think the Gsh is very fast on straight lines....and i feel the car is very bulky ( not agile) when taking corners or overtaking even with AVS sport mode on.
For the time being...the pwr is sufficient for me ...maybe i'm still not getting used with the instant torque and 300+bhp.....

cheers
Ric

Yeah as Henry said I guess it is all relative. I still find it fast as hell. My favorite part isn't really from 0, but passing power at speed. Makes me grin.

Maybe it doesn't feel as fast b/c of the RX 450h which is newer?

the RX450h is no slouch when compared to regular non performance SUVs, but the GS450h is definitely faster. but you are right, passing power at speed is great. it's just sometimes i wish there was more of it!

ah, if only there were performance mods for GSh. i'd be all over it!

yup, seriously, on cars with these kind of power, i don't really care much about flooring from stop, traction is always a problem. passing power, man, how nice

Well you sound like me as my interests are in the IS-F, next GSh or GS-F.

I find it a different kind of fast. I am a little scared to put it into Power mode becuase it's scary fast. The car doesn't give me the confidence that it can hold steady driving at those insane speeds like my old Sc400 could. My brother who is/was a speed freak was quite impressed. I prefer a spirited quick drive, but yeah, I and someone else just mentioned, it feels bulky without feeling heavy, and it's not particularly as agile as i'd like.

you gotta remember that the GS is not exactly performance oriented like the BMW. but with if you lower the GSh with springs or coilovers and add F-Sport sways, handling will be very much improved.

I've been thinking about ways to improve the handling...i'm just not knowledgable enough to even know what to ask for. I just know that i want that but without having a car close to the ground like a kid's car and then worry about scraping and hitting parking curbs. I wouldn't mind a subtle drop, but would the results be so minimal that it would not be worth the cost? What would I be looking for - The products you mentioned, is there a particular make and is it a one size fits all type thing? Can i just go say, i've got a Gs450. i'd like the so an so springs, coilovers and F-sport sway bars - and then i'm good to go? I'm borderline retarded when it comes to these things...i just know that i need to put in premium gas, that's about it. I think forum guys hate people like me

Oh yeah, i mentioned about my experience with acceleration AFTER i let go of the gas, in the main forum, but Batman said it might be a hybrid system timing thing. Have you guys encountered this? Like a slight uptick in acceleration even after your foot comes off. Not all the time, just once in a while. I just can't help thinking one day, i'll sneeze when it happens and then something bad will happen, I'll call insurance with my story and they'll say, "yeah right, nice try".

well CL is here to give you information, so that you can make an informed decision. i don't mind noob questions at all, i mean we were all once noobies like yourself too.

to answer your question, you can do a mild drop like me. i'm lowered on tanabe NF210 springs (GS430 application). do a search for my post "got some clothes on" to see my stance. if you want to go lower, you will want coilovers (GS 350 RWD application should be OK). as for F-Sport sways, i believe GS350 RWD application will work fine. but be aware that some members here complain about knocking noises from the sways, and as today, i'm not sure if there's a resolution from lexus to fix it.

nope, haven't noticed anything unusual about accelerating after letting go of the gas. i recommend that you bring this to the attention of your dealer, and get them to inspect it. even if they find nothing wrong, at least it's recorded in the service database that you had brought this in to lexus' attention.
