Infiniti M Hybrid - First Drive
Very interesting review. Looks like they beat the GS hybrid on all dimensions. I think it is good that they didn't go with CVT from a taste perspective.

Past that if it is 54k base with 370hp and a 24/32 MPG rating that is just incredible!

Nissan's strategy of using two clutch packs and one electric motor, says the company, is more efficient and less costly than systems that instead employ a CVT and two electric motors. Systems, say, like the one used by Lexus in the GS 450h. That car, it turns out, serves as both the M Hybrid's benchmark for smoothness and its primary competition.
On paper, the M Hybrid handily one-ups the GS 450h — the Infiniti's got 369 combined horsepower to the Lexus' 340 and is expected to turn in better fuel economy, particularly on the freeway.
It's far too early to know particulars like EPA fuel economy numbers, but Nissan's big brains expect the M Hybrid to virtually replicate the numbers of an autobox-equipped 1.8-liter Versa, which returns 24 and 32 mpg, respectively. The GS 450h's fuel economy is 22 city/25 highway mpg.

Not trying to be a "Lexus fanboy", but I've never been a fan of the M...every single generation of that vehicle has been butt ugly.

This was another excuse to vent. I guess if you want to compare Infiniti to Lexus that's your cup of tea. They are a second tier luxury car to begin with. Styling and shape are sub par, but while we are on the subject, I guess that makes your 460 look pitiful compared to the m56 with 420 horses.

It seems as though you have an inferiority complex when it comes to the GS hybrid. I have seen a few of your posts nit picking the hybrid.
This was another excuse to vent. I guess if you want to compare Infiniti to Lexus that's your cup of tea. They are a second tier luxury car to begin with. Styling and shape are sub par, but while we are on the subject, I guess that makes your 460 look pitiful compared to the m56 with 420 horses.

I admit I'm not a fan of the Hybrid. I wouldn't buy the Infiniti one either. But my reasons are logical:
1) I need a full sized trunk
2) I prefer a lighter vehicle because they corner better
3) I drive 7000 miles a year and the cost of gas is a non issue for me
+ I know my Lexus has less power than the M56S and the 2011 BMW 550i. But those cars were not available when I bought my Lexus so there wasn't much I could do about it. And I got my car very cheap - so it may be underpowered but it is also $20k less expensive at the price I paid new which makes it a great deal.
There is nothing wrong with communicating my preferences and opinions on these cars. If anything it will help Lexus people reading this as they make R&D decisions regarding future models.

As far as there being better vehicles made available now, I think that's true but then we are all chasing the bouncing ball when it comes to newer vehicles coming out. There will always be something better and more advanced but in this instance I see 450h still holding up fine against a newer competitor.
I am a fan of 460 too, but my parallel was to illustrate that most newer cars will have some feature (power, trim, technology) that is more advanced than its older competitors. It's just the nature of the game.
