Just bought my first RX 450h AWD, 2010 model with 93k on it. I picked it up today from dealer and had a full day to drive around town.
If I let off the gas it does not coast at all. It slows down very quickly after I take foot off of the gas and is very strange to me. Also it has a minimal whining noise when driving which dealer says is normal to add sound for the hybrid version so people can hear you coming. ? Also I looked up the MPG log from back in 2012 and the highest avg I've seen it get is 22- rx450h normal????
23ish mpg. This concerns me as well. I thought It was rated 30 highway and 28 city.
Please let me know if this sounds normal to you guys.
Thanks
In my experience with my 2016 RX 450h, you are about normal or maybe slightly below normal. Don’t believe the hype about getting 30+ mpg out this thing. Maybe, if you do all city driving & stay under 40 mph on battery power most of the time, you will see 30 mpg. I average about 24 mpg combined. Sadly, this car is VERY reactionary to wind. If it’s more than 10-15 mph wind, you will see about 2 mpg drop in highway mileage. I don’t have a lead foot & several dealers have looked at this car & told me that my mpg is pretty average. Summertime with high A/C use & wintertime with high heat use, causes the gas motor to rarely shut down & that hurts the mpg significantly.

Congrats on the new car. I have the same year. Love it. Where's most of your driving at? I'm averaging between 28.5 to 31 with a mixed driving of freeways and surface streets. You might get better mpgs in the city by quickly reaching cruising speeds. Also watch for traffic lights and start gradually slowing down. Also I cruise on the freeways at 75 to 85 mph and as long as you stay in the economy zone you should do great.
Wow that's great info! I just filled up at Costco for the first time tonight and used premium. I guess I'll stick to regular next time. The only experience I have to compare the RX450h is to a 2015 Prius I had few years ago and it coasted a lot better when you let off the gas. Just some getting used to I'm sure and plus mine is an AWD so that might also add to the extra weight/heavier feel.

Thanks! I'm in Idaho Boise area and have some hills here and there. It's going to be my daily driver for family stuff and also long trips back n forth from Idaho to Ca. Should be fun to see what I get on those long 800-900 mile road trips. Gotta get some new tires first but I'll post when I do my first trip with MPG for you guys.
Thanks everyone, It's really nice to have such helpful people 👍🏻
My best mileage was wile driving through the mountains of PA. If you set the speed control going down hill it will use the generator to control your speed without applying the brake and give you more torque to climb the next hill. I think I get better mileage climbing the hills not using speed control.
We have a 2013 450H with now 105,000 on the clock. Bought it new and it delivers a consistent 27-28 when I drive it. My wife gets less. I have seen as high as 32 on flat terrain in FL. We live in North GA and even the hills have little effect. I have stuck to premium fuel. We tried regular and noticed a drop in MPG. The car has the original brake pads and they are still good. I hope someone offers a new 4G module for the Lexus Enform. 3G goes away next year and we will likely keep the car. BTW an AFE power dry air filter seems to help the MPG and it is easy to clean.

I liked your idea of the air filter, but unfortunately, AFE doesn’t provide an air filter for the 4th Gen RX 450h:
Owned for two weeks. Getting 30+ around town.
My approach: No quick starts. Feather the accelerator. Creep up on red lights. No AC in the nice weather. Keep your tires inflated properly. Use ECO drive. You'll get 30 too. (I formerly owned a Prius, and learned those tricks, and more)
I'm the second owner of an RX450h, with roughly 122,800 miles on it, with my third fill up. Started with low grade gas 87, bumped up to mid grade gas 89, and this last fillip was premium grade gas 92. I did this to see if I noticed difference in engine noise, mileage. I check the avg miles from the car, against using an app and plain old math.
So far this 10 year old car is getting me 31.2 on 87, 31. 4 on 89, and still on 3/4 of a tank to go on current fill up. So far these have all been mostly city driving, with one 100 mile rt, highway per fill up. The car avg has shown 32.6 and 31.8 on my two fill ups so far.
I'm hoping this is due to the great maintenance the original owner did with this car. The only thing I have done so far is change the engine and cabin filters, still has 800 miles before the next oil change is due.
Lex, I think your GS is a bit different than the RX. I found that our RX (the 400h) does really well in city driving. Usually doing anywhere from 26 (if its cold) to 30 MPG, where Hwy can be from 25 to 29 MPG. I drove all city the other day and I estimated that my consumption for the trip was about 35 MPG.
To the OP, yes as the engine breaks in your mileage will improve. It did for us anyway.
what kind of magic are you doing?! I feel like I drive pretty modestly but i cannot get better than 20 mpg
