Default What octane fuel do you use

Hi,

My rx450h 2010 get delivered this week

I was wondering what fuel people use in their 450h's as the dealer here in Oz said to use 91 octane but the Lexus website says to use a minimum of 95.

Congrats.

91 is recommended but I use 93 since that's what's available by me.

I think you must have read it wrong, 95 would be near an Av-gas rating and you can't get that at the highway pump. 91 is recommended, a lot of folks are burning 89.
Welcome and post some photos.

I just checked the Australian Lexus website and it definitely says 95 octane. Sounds like it might be a mistake as the dealer said to use 91.

We get generally get 4 petrol choices at the pumps here, 91 95 and 98 octane, with a 10% ethanol option in some of the 91 octane outlets.

The octane rating shown on the pump is not globally standardized.

So, you are comparing apples with oranges over here.

In rest of the world the pump figures are based on RON (research octane number) and in US and Canada they are using AKI (anti knock index) values that are 4-5 points lower than elsewhere.

And then in aviation world the MON (motor octane number) is normally used.

Pls. see more from wikipedia

Modern engines work fine with somewhat lower octane than recommended but it comes with cost of lower performance.

I don't have experience on this because the lowest I can go is 95 (RON) in Finland - and that's the one suggested by Lexus.
