Everyone,
I purched my '10 RX 450h with the Lexus tow package, and I'm now deciding on our toy-hauler trailer.
I've scoured the internet for anyone quoting towing experience with this vehicle, and there isn't much to read.
A few reviewer's note finding complaints that the vehicle towing capability is actually less than the factory-stated 3,500lbs.
Soooooo, has anyone extensively towed? What's your experience, weight, and terrain?
thanks in advance,
AC

Alright; I've completing towing a ton of stuff over the past 6 months,
to include the largest U haul trailer, loaded, from Wash DC to Fayetteville, NC.
The engine works fantastic, and the suspension held its own.
I still think it's a scam the 450h charges the same price for the tow package as the 350, as the 450 doesn't include a larger alternator or transmission cooler, but Lexus International said "it was a business decision". gotta love the false advertising and knowingly leading consumers astray!

"Tow Prep Package: Transmission Cooler, Heavy Duty Alternator & Radiator (ball mount not included)--- $ 238.00",
I assume the above is installed on my 2010 RX 450h.

I don't believe that is correct.
Justification:
Call Lexus International and inquire as to what, exactly, is included in the "tow prep package" for the RX450h.
I found out it doesn't include the three components included in the RX 350, which you correctly stated below, even though you're paying the same price, and believing you're receiving the same equipment.
"Tow Prep Package: Transmission Cooler, Heavy Duty Alternator & Radiator (ball mount not included)--- $ 238.00"
I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and asked the salesman to find out what, exactly, is included. He replied the 450h doesn't "need" a larger alternator due to the hybrid electrical configuration. It also doesn't "need" a transmission cooler as the 450h's continuously variable tramission is unique. Therefore, the only component you're getting with the 450h is the larger radiator.
I called Lexus International, and the reply they gave me was that this was a Lexus "business decision" i.e. to charge consumers for parts they weren't receiving, and it was the consumer's job to decide if this was a good deal . . . or not.
Let me know if you get solid information stating otherwise.

cronin, I was in there, actually my installer was, when he changed out the fogs and the trans cooler was definitely included. He had to work around it to install the ballast. Check the driver side front wheel, forward part of wheel well. Go through the bottom, it's easier. As far as the alternator and radiator, I'm not sure what they should look like compared to non-tow package equipped 450hs (i.e. FWD). Maybe someone who has a FWD can post a picture of theirs for comparison.

Kiltz is correct. If you look in the driver side wheel well towards the front you will see a vent. Look through the slits and you will see the the trans cooler. If you don't have the package you see daylight and a big empty space.

Awesome, I verified the same on my vehicle today.
So, I expect then, that we're not getting the other two options (larger radiator and alternator)? If the Lexus International group was wrong again, I'll be a happy man.
