Default K&N Causing Check Engine Light

Gang, I installed the K&N Cold Air Intake with the plate modification on the MAF like mentioned before. At first the engine sputtered and battled to stay running. Turned out the plate I made was too large and the MAF wasn't down far enough into the tube. I adjusted by trimming the plate drastically. It was fine for about 200 miles and then the same check engine codes came back up. K&N causing the engine to run too lean on the air fuel mix. Also, the performance was actually worse with it in there. The engine may pull a bit more, but the battery clearly does not have the same instant push like with the stock system. It ran about 1 second slower on 0-60 than previous. Not sure if anyone has experienced same problem. If anyone has any advice as to what is going on, let me know. Seems like previous post showed great fuel gains with no problems???

Did you ever figure this out??? I want to do the mod myself but I definetly do not want to loose power. Does anyone also know if just adding the air filter will make a difference in sound and if adding the intake pipe on top of that will make more sound?
